I develop my web application in using Ms Visual Studio.NET 2003, OS - Windows XP, Web Server - IIS 5.1.
My web application (using ASP.NET, VB) is connect to Access database.
Now, I have deploy it and try to run it in the Windows 2000 Platform, with IIS 5.0.
Why my web application failed to perform on the necessary task like, edit, update, and delete?
Is that mean my web application got some bugs or something?
Please advice.

Uhm... Developing a web application in one enviroment and migrating it in another isn't really recommended, but that is just my opinion (I had personally problems once when I developed ASP.NET under Win 2000 and migrating it to Windows XP after). To me it sounds like if IIS or .NET Framework would be the issue. Have you tried to build your application in Win 2000 instead?

I haven't.
As I'm building my web application in WinXP, IIS 5.1, so I have tried on Windows 2000 Professional.
What is your suggestion?

Aaron

In my case I had problems with my .NET framework so I had it reinstalled.
What error message do you get in Windows 2000 when you try to run your application?

Building the Solution under Win 2000 would not help as the code will still compile to the same MSIL, only when the code is JIT-compiled will the differences between platforms occur.
I would think the problem is more to do with security permissions than anything else.

Windows XP has a much tighter security model that Windows 2000, and now with SP2 it is tighter still. I've had problems migrating from W2K to XP but they were all security related. Recompiling the code on the new platform made no difference.

That is because IIS thinks you want to view the directory, any you haven't given permission for that. You need to tell IIS the name of the page that it should be displayed by default when a user doesn't enter one in the URL.
To do this, open up the Internet Information Services (IIS) panel in the Administrative Tools folder. Navigate to the appropriate virtual directory, right-click it and select "Properties". In the new dialog, select the Documents tab, make sure that "Enable Default Document" is checked. Add the name of the web page you want displayed when the URL is just a directory name.
Does this help?

Sorry, I misread your original post.
Is there a part of a stack trace with the error message? Do you get the same error when you run your application from within Visual Studio? (i.e. you press F5 to open it in IE with a debugger attached)

Does anyone know where I can find a xslt file to transform xml into html or how to open a new browser window from asp.net to display the xml. I have a string that contains the xml that is generated from an object. I want to display the xml to the user in the browser. The format can change so writing a custom xsl is time consuming. I just want to display the xml as would be done if you open up an xml file in the web browser. However, must of the xsl files that exist on a windows pc for doing this are specifically designed to be run by the browser and don't use the standard schema that is required by XslTransform. I want the data to be displayed in a nicely color and formated XML format. If anyone has any help for me on this it would be greatly appreciated.

<br />
The default Web access mode for this project is set to file share, but the project folder at 'http://localhost/WebApplication1' cannot be opened with the path 'c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\WebApplication1'.
Can anybody explain why i keep getting this? IIS is running correctly and so are the rest of my Visual Studio .NET applications...I only get this when I try to create Web Applications...

To fix IIS mappings for ASP.NET, follow these steps:
Run the Aspnet_regiis.exe utility:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open text box, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
"%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\version\aspnet_regiis.exe" -i
In this path, version represents the version number of the .NET Framework that you installed on your server. You must replace this placeholder with the actual version number when you type the command.
Register the Aspnet_isapi.dll:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open text box, type the following, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\version\aspnet_isapi.dll
Regsvr32 returns the results of the registration.
Then you wont get that error

Hi,
I have implemented the spell check feature for email module in 3 Tier Web application.
Right now when we do reply, it is checking the spell check for the whole message
that is the new message entered by the user and the previous message ( for ref. see how outlook express work ).
-----Original Message----- is the text which can be use as a seperator between new message and the old message.
But that is not a good solution to find -----Original Message----- and till that run the spell check.
I want to make the same as Outlook express, where it does not matter what you are doing in previous message.
It will check only for the new messages.
Please suggest me any solution(s).............
PS: My data is inline ( that is only text - NO RTF control can be use )

Hi,
Datagrid.Sort() doesnt seem to sort integers right.
My code is something like this, this is a part of datagrid event:
dgProductList.DataSource = catalogXml;
dgProductList.CurrentPageIndex = e.NewPageIndex;
//create a new dataview with xml data
DataView dvCatalog = new DataView(catalogXml.Tables[0]);
//provide sort expression from datagrid event
dvCatalog.Sort = e.SortExpression;
//assign data source
dgProductList.DataSource = dvCatalog;
//bind data
dgProductList.DataBind();
The code works just fine for sorting any column but for integer column.
When I click on a integer column to sort the result i get is:
23
234
2345
246
25
256
what i expect is obviously:
23
25
234
246
256
2345
Does anyone have any input on this?
Appreciate your response.
Thanks,
Sucharita.

The problem is it thinks that the integer column is a text column. could you give an example of how catalogXml.table[0] is populated ??

Thanks for your response.
I do a databind and bind the dataview to the datagrid.
DataView.Sort() with a sort expression doesn't seem to work right.
Is there a value i should be passing for sort expression to indicate the integer column?
|
|
|
|
|
no the sort is working fine but the problem is that it is sorting on string and not integer values. You can try changing the data type of the dataColumn something like -
myTable.Columns[columnName].DataType = System.Type.GetType("int32");
This might throw an error (but its worth a try) something like - cannot change the type of a column that has already been filled with data.
