Yes it is.
You can create one using regasm.exe
OR you can add an installer class to your assembly and have an installer callit.
regasm.exe is the easiest of the two but only if you are deploying to a handful of computers.

Can someone tell me how to make a column in a datagrid that simply puts the number of the record in its field?
ie: (Rnk Column)
Rnk Name
1 aaa
2 bbb
3 ccc
4 ddd
Thanks

Public Shared Function Rank() As DataTable
Dim ds As DataSet = SqlHelper.ExecuteDatase(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings(myProj.ConnectionString), "usp_GetRankedList")
Dim dt As New DataTable()
dt.Columns.Add("Rank")
dt.Columns.Add("Name")
Dim r As DataRow
Dim workRow As DataRow
Dim i As Integer = 1
For Each r In ds.Tables(0).Rows
workRow = dt.NewRow
workRow("Rank") = i
workRow("Name") = r("Name")
dt.Rows.Add(workRow)
i += 1
Next
Return dt
End Function

thanks for the reply, but my main problem is this...
i have another table in a dataset that I want to joing, say to that table you just created, link them on a field, and then pull the results from that join. ie. all the fields from the second table and the rank field on the first table.. the join would, for example, be on the "Name" field...
Got any ideas?
Thanks

If you are using a stored procedure, you should probably take care of any joining you want to do there. Just use the vbDataGrid for display.
If you go this way I've found www.sqlteam/forums to be very helpful if you are unsure of how to put that stored procedure together.
Good luck

is there a way around not using stored procedures?
It is a lengthy process to get our DBA to create those procedures and so being able to do joins on the fly in vs.net would be awesome...
do you know of a way to do this?
thanks

I'm sure there is a way around it, I'm not familiar with it though, it's not considered "best practice".
www.msdn.com may help, or maybe you could post a topic based on that.

Hi! Every one,
I want to write an addin for vb6 ide which will help to minimize coding process.
The addin will do following thing,
It will add automatically few line of code whenever coder creates new event of any control or user defined class. Say for example it will automatically write first line as on error goto errhandler and at the end it will write exit sub
ErrHandler:
error reporting.
Anyhelp.....?

Try more on:Geocities[^], free vb code[^] and kidware software[^]. Kidware software contain a free trail documentation about beginning vb6, vb.net. If you want to try to can go to this website. I can start programming on vb6 since the last 5 years by the tutorial from this website too. Good luck.

Hi,
I want to detetmin parent class
For instance there is a Cars collection with Car item.
Cars collection has some property that I need to access from Car item.
CarsCollection
Property_01
Property_02
CarItem(s) (Type, Name, Year, ...)
I want to obtain the value of Property_02 from CarItem(5).
Every CarItem is already inside Cars collection and I am sure that there is way to obtain parent class.
How to do that?
Do not send answers like "You have to hold a reference to the CarsCollection in the CarItem"
I think that is something about iComponent, Reflections or something similar. .

Hi,
I am using collection to bind data to datagrid.
Dim oCars as CarCollections = New CarCollections
DataGrid1.DataSource = oCars
Everyithing work fine but there is a sorting problem.
If I do so, there is no sorting features in DataGrid. When I bind DataSet to Datagrid I can Sort data in DataGrid by clicking on columns header. DataGrid automaticly sort filled data according to clicked colum.
When I bind datagrid to Collection that features is missing.
What should i do, in Collection class - CarsCollection, to have sorting features back
Thanks in advance
P.S. Sorry for bad English

Hi everyone, I am totally fed up of this, see if anyone can help me out..
1. I have a datatable which is bound to a datagrid,
2. I have a datepicker placed on the 2nd column in the grid,
3. I am able to assign the datepicker values to the particular cell.
4. but, when the use clicks the clear buttton in the datepicker, I have to clear the cell(which already has some date in it)
I am unable to do it. I searched everywhere (msdn, codeproject articles..)
In one case they have mentioned that the empty() property will clear the values, But it does not work with the date field.
so, if anybody has the solution for this prob, help me out.

how do I run a .WAV file through a voice modem ?
Thanks

|

Try SndPlaySound function:
Public Declare Function sndPlaySound Lib "winmm.dll" Alias "sndPlaySoundA" (ByVal lpszSoundName As String, ByVal uFlags As Long) As Long
Find more help on the MSDN.

This function only works with sound cards, not TAPI compliant modems...

You'll need to use TAPI 2.0 to get it to work. Search the User Samples at www.GotDotNet.com for the term "TAPI" to find a project that wraps the TAPI 2.0 API into a nice little .NET Framework class library.

No I don't. I've never used TAPI and, more than likely, never will.

Ok, this is simply amazing. I have been a user of VB for years and can not belive that MS took a step backwards.
It took me 30 minutes to figure out how to add a custom toolbox icon to my usercontrol and I cannot belive the hoops I had to jump through to do it.
I had to add an attribute to my usercontrol class to point to an embdeded resource in my project that was an ico file the same name as my usercontrol class.
Simply amazing.. where the heck is the 'Toolbox Bitmap' property of my darn usercontrol in the designer!?!
UGH!

Dunno what's possible in VB, but once you click the X, the form is destroyed. If you can catch the close event, you can set the form to be invisible. It will need to be modeless, otherwise it will maintain the focus and your main window will not be responsive.
