I have been told that it is permissible to publish articles using Microsoft closed-source software, but it is not permissible to publish articles using other free closed-source tools, except under Product Showcase? Even if permissible it seems to be distasteful for most members. Is there any good place to post such articles, here or at another site?
Also, my request for rates on the Product Showcase received no response.

Please disallow anonymous comments on articles. Here I am speaking of not just "true" anonymous comments, I am speaking of comments made by anyone that cannot be traced back to a real name. It is very easy to create a temporary user id just to post a temporary comment.
This would restrict comments to people who are willing to put their name behind the comment, and reduce abusive/garbage comments. This is especially important if you wish to increase the number of women who post articles on CodeProject.

In Europe we have a problem when printing articles from www.codeproject.com because the paper is narrower than in the US. Most lines are truncated by about 5 to 10 characters. If you have a solution, please post it to Microsoft so they can improve the Internet Explorer. It seems as if the programmers in Seattle has hard coded 'letter size' paper into their drivers, or maybe just Internet Explorer. Who knows?
I think the problem shows up particularly when the web pages are layed out with the tag. The problem can be reduced by manually using 'Page Setup' to set the margins to zero. The problem also shows up in 'Print Preview'.
Otherwise, I recommend the pages of this site to be layed out differently.
The paper size in Europe is "A4", which is slightly narrower than 'letter size'.
This is a general problem that has been around for years, without anyone doing anything about it.

There is a solution. On each article page there is a sidebar on the left, in the side bar there is a button marked "Print Version". Click it!

It is not hard coded. IE will print quite happily on many papers sizes.

Yes, if the page author specifies that a table (or any other element) is a set number of pixels the there is a translation between screen DPI and printer DPI so you don't get tiny unreadable printouts. If the table widths are set in percentages there is no problem. If the sizes are set in pixels and your screen is too small you get scroll bars, and untill someone invents paper with scroll bars you are just going to have to live with it.

Actually, people are spending an amazing amount of time getting these sort of things to work. It isn't actually as easy as it would appear. I know. I've written applications that have to print custom stuff to various page sizes.

I am really sorry for being rude. But I have tried for years to reach Microsoft about this problem, in vain. I am glad that the 'Code Project' has 'Print version' option. Not all web sites have that. But still, since the resolution in general is higher on a printer than a screen, it wouldn't seem to be too difficult to scale the page properly.
On the the hand, I understand there could be a mapping problem since we cannot work with fractions of pixels and dots.

I realise this is probably just a side-effect of the server issues however I thought I'd document it anyway.
I gave this[^] message a 5.
The voting window pop-up came up but it had a server error message page rather than the "thanks for you vote" page.
Looking at the message, it appears that my vote didn't register as the message doesn't have any votes. However if I try to vote on it again, it tells me I've already voted for this message.
I'm guessing only half of the DB update happened before the server timed out.

I have a small suggestion to CP Administrator. If we can start a continues training session's in different technologies, then that will be very helpful for developers. So developers will get a continues and step by step improvement in different technologies. This will also help the CP to get more and regular site hits.
Definitely I will contribute one or two training threads if the above idea come into picture.

It would be nice if an ALT text was added to each of the smiley faces so that people can know what they are easily. On occasion, I've had to check the file name in the property dialog, just to be able to tell the expression. The only ones I know for sure are smile, frown, grin, beer and flower.
