CheckBoxes in CTreeCtrl

How can we bring checkboxes onto the tree control elements. Check Boxes should appear only on the first level elements of the tree control. Inner tree elements should not have check boxes.

Tree control is similar to the one in Custimation Ribbon Tab in Word Options in Word 2010

Please help.

Solution 1

You can use item icons as checkboxes. When user clics inside of item's icon, you would change the icon to appropriate state (checked or unchecked). Set empty icons to inner elements to avoid checboxes.
