How do search engines index images

i have seen various search engines, which shows images for keyword X

but when i checked that images, its imageName, imageURL, imageALT doesnot contains the text X.

So how do they search and index images. Whats the methodology behind image search?

Sorry but each search engine has their own process and all of it is proprietary. I highly doubt you will find a direct answer to this query.
