Is it possible to execute a trigger in sql server "BEFORE" executing an insert statement?

Dear sir/Madam,

I would like to invoke a trigger on BEFORE the INSERT/UPDATE statement in sql sever 2005. I am able to use the 'AFTER' key word for triggering an event after INSERT OR UPDATE but unable to invoke BEFORE. Kindly help me out.
