I like the post by Uma, but you also have to weigh that against the question of if you are always going to just use SQL Server.

You should know both.

It depends on the platform and standards of the company you are into. As per performance, it is the same. Difference between the two? of course the syntax and platform. Check out difference here:

But if you want a newer way of querying, then use LINQ instead.
