bias in neural networks

When training a back propagation neural net, I am using 1 bias input for the hidden layer and another 1 for the output.

my questions are:
1. is the biased used when back propagating?
2. when i need to recognize a pattern after the ANN has been trained do I need the bias when doing the feed forward?
