URL rewriting with node and apache2

I have an old PHP app that looks in a MySQL database for the folder where my HTML code is stored. The next version is written in Node. Do you have any suggestion on how to do this nicely with Node instead of PHP?

What I have tried:

Basic rewrites in Apache2 settings folder.

I dont think Node is designed to do it in that way. Could you write an API that will return information needed / requested?
