Hi,
I am a new ASP.NET developer. I have some clarifications about the best practices that shall be followed in web development.
I understand, the choice between ASP.NET server controls or mere HTML/jQuery based controls is based on the time duration of the task in hand. But, I have a confusion on which would be the best one to choose in terms of maintainability, effective usage of bandwidth, interactivity and all. ASP.NET does generate scripts for which many of the things will run at client side itself. But, will it results in heavy overheads?
Example:
If I want to develop an interactive website which supposed to get the required data from database and manipulate it before showing to the user:
1. Having a WEB API that shall be doing the data fetch process and data manipulation and return the data in JSON form to the webpage (which calls the Web API). In the website, the presentation logic will be there in HTML5 and Javascript (and other javascript libraries).
2. Fetching the data by using EntityFramework/LINQ to SQL in the website's data access layer and have the presentation logic in ASP.NET webforms.
Which of the two above approach will be a better one to opt.
Thank you in advance.
