impersonate raise error in asp.net

I tried to write following. Iam using IIS-7 and windows 7 OS.

<identity impersonate="true" />

it raise error: HTTP Error 500.24 Internal server Error.

When i write <identity impersonate="true" user="abc" password="123"> it works.
but when i write <identity impersonate="true"> it raise error: HTTP Error 500.24 Internal server Error
