Whilst my primary vote was for writing better documentation. I have a general aim of improving my communication skills, both oral and written.
Over the last few months I've come to realise that I'm not very good at communicating my ideas across to other people. I've always had a shy kind of personality and as such my conversational skills have never been the best. I am now finding writing formal documentation such as specifications and design documents a struggle too.
I put a lot of this down to the large period of time this year that I spent working alone on my own pet projects. My communication skills do seem to have atrophied. Not having a client to sell the ideas too or without other team members making constructive suggestions, I've become a very lazy communicator.
Hopefully I'll be able to improve in 2006.
Michael

You might try taking an introductory communications class at a community college, or investigate Toastmasters[^]. Public speaking only improves when you do it. I took "COM 101" in college, and actually enjoyed it.
Writing is the same thing. I was like anyone else, and hated writing, until I spent close to a year working as a technical writer when I was in college. That forever burned out of me any problems with putting words to paper.
You can tell this from the fact that I'm in the "+3σ" end of the curve for post length on Code Project .

I was thinking in the same direction, but ended here:
Most people get to involved arguing what makes a good deed, and don't have any time left doing it.
We say "get a life" to each other, disappointed or jokingly. What we forget, though, is that this is possibly the most destructive advice you can give to a geek.

Congrats (I hope !!), I just did on Sunday. We've been together 2 years. She put up with the long hours & no pay of a startup...after sticking around through that fiasco, she has exhibited patience of biblical proportions.

Thanks, I am very confident she will say yes. My big worries are what ring to pick and what to say.

Cogratulations! Would that not fall under the 'Quit [insert addiction here]' category, as in procrastination being the addiction?

My resolution: find a girl, settle down, not break up because I figure out she wasn't the one I wanted to settle down with.
