If I was feeling bored at lunch time I would go and see how big the pile of cigarette ash I could shake out of the keyboard of other people in the office. Been doing this for a few years now and it works fine. The rare instance when it gets damaged, I go out and buy a new one (because, obviously, it was going to break soon anyway.) I just have to remember to turn the heat dryer OFF when I run the dishwasher. I forgot to do that once; the results were not pretty. Yes, optical mice do not have rollers but the pads can become sticky. I use a track ball and have to clean the three ball bearings. As to keyboard that depends. My worthy advisory mr TrackBall and I do not meet very often, but there is one on one of the computers at the University - the one in the hall (so I do have reason to use it sometimes, when I don't know where I'm supposed to go). Whenever I feel like it, I give the keyboard/mice/laptop air vents a few blasts of "air" and it's instantly cleaned! (I think ). Cleaning is made so easy and even fun. Huisheng Chen7-Aug-09 16:44 Huisheng Chen 7-Aug-09 16:44  my oldest harddisk is over 16 years old, it should work if there is a suitable slot... and so does my first mouse and keyboard, really working fine but they are too old, so I sent them to somewhere corner, however, new mouses and keyboards are too crappy, most of them do not last long, especially mouses, I bought the best Logic-Tech I could find here and they only last for about 6 months before the clicks behave abnormal...... It's an (very) expensive mouse, but it's the only one which survived here for more than a year. (Most other mouses whent after 3-6 months straight to the litterbin.) Had to do my screen the other day as I bit into a tomato and all the seeds and stuff squirted all over my screen. I still have an old IntelliMouse Explorer v1.0, and I can't tell if it's dirty or the finish is just worn down from many years of use. Probably a bit of both. Just a bit strange if you ask me.
