That's what you'd think. But it's astonishing how there are so many people who spend so much effort and time in engaging him in conversation

I didn't.
It was a thread in the lounge and he came out of left field.

If that's the case, I think we need more stringent controls on access from left field. Maybe a black hole...

I didn't mean you. But the Back Room forum is primarily used as a place where a bunch of CPians engage him in absolutely ridiculous debates.

Occasionally (1 in 20 pages or thereabouts) the banner ad to the East of Bob gets up the nose of NoScript (2.0.1, in FF 3.6.8). Here is the error console dump (line wrapped somewhat arbitrarily - there's no newline in the original).

I gather lakequincy is related to CP, so I'm not screaming. If this is an ad hosted in the wrong place by mistake, please move it. If, however, this is the way of the future, then we need to think a bit harder about how it all should work.

The Code Project aquired Lake Quincy last year and we've just (ie yesterday!) moved all our advertising over to Lake Quincy so that Steve Smith can do what he does best, and CodeProject can do what we do best.
We'll work on getting this sorted.

Chris, it's NoScript that detected the potential Xss attempt

I read "noscript" in his message as a <NOSCRIPT> tag.
I'm having what's technically known as a "shocker" today
My defence is it's been a big week. A really big week adding these new bugs. They don't just happen by themselves!

Until I read your reply below, I thought this was a little self-deprecating humor.
EDIT: Well, your reply below the message of yours I was replying to, but above this reply.

When I go to the C# forum, I see a breadcrumb control that looks like this:
Home > Forums > C#
Some forums, like Coding Horrors, are missing this breadcrumb control. Would be neat if they all had a breadcrumb control.

|

Yes it is inconsistent. However I doubt the breadcrumb thingy is useful at all in the forums; it basically allows you:
- to get home (click Bob for that)
- to get the forum list (it is in the left pane already)
- to see where you are (the title tells you that)
So I see it as a waste of real-estate.

I find it convenient when I am in a forum and have replied to a message already. Sometimes I'll leave a reply, go get metaphorical coffee, then come back and I'll want to refresh the page to see if there are new posts in the current forum. Because posting a message causes the browser to update the URL with a permalink to the posted message, refreshing the page will scroll down and open the message I just posted, which is not what I want. I could also scroll down the left of the page to find the forum I'm currently in and click that to refresh the page, but that takes time to search through all those links. Or I can modify the URL to get rid of all the permalink junk, but that is slow and I rather like clicking. What I like to do in the C# forum is click the "C#" in the breadcrumb to have the page refresh... since it is conveniently located and there are no other links around it, I can easily find it. Can't do that in "Coding Horrors" and some other forums. Would be nice if I could. And nothing wrong with a consistent look on each page.

There is a 'refresh' link at the top of each forum, in the forum header

Last couple of days I've had some intermittent problems pasting a URL link into the message edit page.
Here are details on the most recent occurence:
using FF3.0, answering a question in C# forum, happened to be served by Web24, I try and convert a word I already had typed (and selected) into a hyperlink; all it did was replace the word by the URL.
Tried again without anything selected, the hyperlink appears in its dual format (readable URL, and arrowed URL to a new window/tab). Tried again with a word selected (spaces on both ends not included), no dice, the word gets replaced by the URL. Tried an unselected one again, works great.
Happy Hunting.

I too have had this, but found that it is not consistant.
I think some of the servers treat it differently from others.
Presumably the Hamsters are already aware.

The servers treat this all the same - it's all .NET server side code with no IIS subtleties.
You probably experienced a problem with timeouts. We've been mucking about with new backup strategies and these have been causing extra load.
