yeah yeah, we have tried so many times but still we do get programming questions in the lounge...
Now lets consider an average surfer, who is new to codeproject and wants to post a question but dont know where. He clicks on one of the forum(lounge) -> post a new message -> and starts writing (without reading the bold red text "Please do not.....")
I suggest that this text should be in the edit box itself , and when the user clicks on the textbox , the message could be removed. This will i belive make sure that the newcommer reads the warning before he posts his programming question in the lounge.
This way , you can also give a longer warnings too if any.
Regards.

Good idea. And if there was a check to see if the number of messages posted by the user was greater than 10, don't bother with the warning.

yeah this is a good idea too, coz by default the edit box gets the focus, so we dont what the "experienced" poster to click on the editbox everytime he posts a message.

That's not a problem, for new threads the Subject field has the focus first.

Sounds like a good idea. But how long before we get stuff in the Lounge like this:
DO NOT POST PROGRAMMING QUESTIONS IN THE LOUNGE, USE A PROGRAMMING FORUM.<br />

I am new to VB.NET and I want to know how to....

Hmm. Good point. Of course, the post routine could strip out the "idiot text" before it is saved to the database.

Alternatively we could include a post parser that can recognize keywords and tokens, then redirect inappropriate posts to the correct forum. I'm sure Chris has plenty of free time to implement this, so we might have it running by Monday.
Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.

I think we should leave it the way it is.
We rarely get programming questions in the lounge now, and the few that do give us some chance to shower them in acidic ridicule, which helps cheer up us grumpy coders a lot

See this thread for an example.
Any ideas of what to do about this sort of thing?
You can have an admin function that allows you to delete a user-id with all of their posts as well. (Perhaps you already have this, I don't know). Just don't delete mine

( small question )
can a "robot" post like that ? or is it done manually ? ( the spamming, not the deletion )

An email to webmaster@codeproject.com (aka Chris) will do the trick. As Chris monitors this forum he'll know soon enough anyway.

Hi there,
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, or if anyone else besides me would like it, but I usually refresh the whole forum page after rating a message, just to see what is the new score.
So I thought it would be nice if the new score was displayed in the small "Thank you for voting" popup window, if this is possible. What do you guys think about this?

Is there going to be a monthly article competition this month, or has it been replaced by the mobile devices competition for one month only?
I only ask, as I had a few articles in last months submissions, and I stood a very small chance of winning a prize!

This sounds a lot like the standard codeproject html template file. I use it all the time when writing/developing my articles. The only difference between its output and the final things is the difference in the img tags, and maybe a small amount of differences in some of the formatting of code. Other than that, its normally exactly like the "finished" article.

I normally set up a sub directory into where I put the images that will be named exactly like the article directory structure.
So, say you are creating an article that will be called my_cool_article , I just create a subdirectory called "my_cool_article" and I place the images in there, while I am writing up the html I create the img tag like <img src="my_cool_article/my_image.jpg" ...>
Then when it comes to uploading the article, I can copy the HTML from the template based file without modification. When the images are uploaded everything is in the right place and it all works out.

Well, this isn't actually a suggestion for the message boards themselves, but I was thinking that it might be cool to have an app that could monitor the forums, alert the user when new messages are posted in the forums, and be able to post new messages.

Sorta. I didn't know about Desktop Bob, and he is pretty cool. But I was thinking of something that could monitor specific message boards, view the messages' text, and post new messages right from the app. I think I might be able to modify DB to what I want though.
BTW, thanks for the link.

Bad idea. Ads pay for the bandwidth, and the advertisement model used by codeproject is one of the most bearable in the whole sloggoth called the internet.
