Hi, How i can use TAPI to design telephony project in vb? Ritesh

Could you tell me where i can find TAPI 2.2? I have no idea wat TAPI does but all i wanted to do is have my caller ID working. I read that TAPI is available by default on all windows systems. Does that mean I have TAPI 2.0 or 2.2? I've been searching the net for TAPI 2.2 that i can download but was unsuccessul. Ive read that TAPI 2.2 is the only version available for windows 98 which is what im currently using and that is why im looking for it. There was a readme file included with the caller ID software and this is part of it:
CallerID requires caller ID service from your phone company, TAPI 2.0 or greater to be installed, a Unimodem/V driver as well as a modem capable of receiving caller ID information. The Unimodem/V driver is installed by default on Windows98/2000 machines, and an update can be downloaded for Windows95 at http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/modem/ Also make sure that you have the latest drivers for your modem - I would recommend checking for them at: http://www.driverzone.com/ If you're interested in finding out pretty much everything having to do with caller ID and the PC, I highly recommend checking: http://www.ainslie.org.uk/callerid.htm
I have caller ID service, i dont have the TAPI (i think), and i think i have unimodem since it did say its installed by default in win 98, and i have downloaded drivers for my Lucent Win Modem.
Im just a high school student who frequently uses the internet and frequently misses calls. If you have any information that can help me get the program up and running please do tell. I dont know if ure reply would come straight to my mailbox but just to make sure please send it directly to my email. TY

Hello
You can see the subject line. All I am trying to do is generate tone. Now I am successfully generating Digits but Generating tones returns the above error. here is the code I am using for that.
/////////////////////////////////
LINEGENERATETONE lgt;
lgt.dwFrequency = 10;
lgt.dwCadenceOn = 100;
lgt.dwCadenceOff = 2000;
lgt.dwVolume = 0x0000FFFF;
long lErr = 0;
///////////////////
lErr = lineGenerateTone(m_tapiObj.m_hCall, LINETONEMODE_CUSTOM,0,1,&lgt);
///////////////////
AND ALSO TRIED THIS ONE
////////////////////////////////
long lErr = 0;
lErr = lineGenerateTone(m_tapiObj.m_hCall,LINETONEMODE_BEEP,
-1,0,NULL);
////////////////////////////////
I am in a real hurry. I need some help in couple of hours from now . Thanks

Hello everyone,
I am a Dutch student in my final schoolyear Electronics and Informationtechnology . At the moment I'm doing research on IP telephony and different technologies/protocols. At the end of my research I also want to demonstrate an selfwritten application which can communicate over IP. I have developed a TAPI application (with Borland® Delphi 4) before, but TAPI 3.0 and 3.1 uses a COM interface Can someone give me some example sourcecode for TAPI 3 with COM objects in Delphi 4 Programming language?

Hello, i've got a problem in my application to get the variable HCALL from the fonction "lineGetNewCalls" to identify the caller with the fonction "lineGetCallInfo".
Thanks to reply

i also want to know about that how tapi is used to identify the caller telephone no. in vb using some programming languages..
i will be so grateful if someone help me by providing some sample code for that and help me developing that.

I also want a starter kit in VC++ for TAPI 3.0 so that I can start TAPI programming in Async. mode... As that will be capable of handling large number of channels...
Please if somebody have it, share it..!!!!

Who knows how to start phone (when totally closed) on PocketPc ?

In a web page, if we have a link (anchor tag) such as
<a href="mailto:john@XYZ.com">Mail John</a>
Clicking on the “Mail John” link will open Outlook compose window, with “john@XYZ.com” in the “To” field.
Pocket PC Phone Edition similarly supports “tel” prefix. Clicking on which will open phone dialer with the phone no. supplied to it.
<a href="tel:9123435646">Call Fred</a>
The link click can be simulated in VC++/eVC++ using ShellExecute and ShellExecuteEx APIs.
SHELLEXECUTEINFO shInfo;
memset (&shInfo,0,sizeof(SHELLEXECUTEINFO));
shInfo.cbSize = sizeof(SHELLEXECUTEINFO);
shInfo.lpVerb = _T("open");
shInfo.lpFile = _T("tel:9123435646");
shInfo.lpParameters = _T("");
ShellExecuteEx(&shInfo);

I've been looking for some sample C# TAPI code and S.S. Ahmed's sample project is the best I've seen for wrapping the calls in C# and demonstrating how to dial. However, I'd like to figure out how to detect a ring in and get the callerid information so I can update a database with incoming calls. I'm not a TAPI guru and the calls are less than obvious. Is this possible and does anyone have any sample code that demonstrates this? Thanks.

You are talking about C# code, however it is a VB 6 project ...

Ron,
I am also doing a project along the lines of what you described. Have you had any luck getting the caller ID information in C#?
Thanks,

No I didn't. I gave up on it actually. I could reliably get the ring event, but never the callerid information. I suspected I had hardware that wasn't compatible, because I downloaded 3 different shareware ActiveX controls and none of them would have caller information available either. However, if I had HyperTerminal open when the phone rang, it would display the phone number. I don't have a high confidence level in TAPI.

Ron,
If you happen to still have your old code, would you mind email it to me as a starting point for my application. Right now I just need to get the ring event. Thanks for your response!

I have not found much practical use of TAPI, and it looks just a bit to complicated to deploy on just any computer, am I right.
Or else why is there an API for stuff I could probally get right on my own if U left me some time. Do U know any more about TAPI than what U put in the Article, the MSDN stuff is totally cryptic, and I am not too keen to dig into all the COM stuff needed to write extensions and bits for TAPI.
Blind rant or no, I need help.

TAPI is far from dead. I still use it everyday in the development of telephony applications.
TAPI is available by default on all Windows systems. You only need to deploy the TSPI's that control your telephony hardware.
TAPI 2.x is installed on 9x clients but the easier to use Tapi 3 is available on Win2k and XP.
TAPI exists to provide a common interface to varying telephony devices, in theory code written for one modem or pabx should work on another.
What questions do you need answering?

I have an application for the following, and I hope TAPI might help me get at least 50% of the work done, can U help? My co-worker is also a bit lost on how to achive this.
1. Dial up a mobile or fixed-line user. (voice call /assisted dialing)
2. Wait untill they pick up.
3. Play a wav file/use Text-To-Speech API to provide an instruction.
4. wait for them to acknowledge the instruction using TDMF tones (keystrokes)
5. hang up.
If user does not pick up at step 2, take some other action.
Simple application, but TAPI seems to be all about networking, not communicating to people/devices.
What should I be looking at? info on TAPI is very thin on the ground in this kind of application. My big problem is that using SMS serives for this purpose is too slow and cumbersome.
Thanks in advance.

The first question is what hardware are you using at your end. Modems tend to have very poor TAPI support, most just use the Unimodem TSPI which isn't very fully featured.
Making a call through to another phone is fairly straight forward. MSDN has some good samples for making calls. Another useful site is http://www.julmar.com/samples.htm [^] especially the class library.
This site http://www.sellsbrothers.com/writing/telprog/[^]
also has a few useful links.
TAPI doesn't support the actual data/voice transfer. It does give you a device handle via lineGetID which can then be used via the WAV api or the TextToSpeech API (If I remember correctly the Speech SDK used to have some good TAPI samples)
Hope this is all of some use,
Michael
