There is a setup project that determines the IE version of the computer and decides whether IE 6.0 will be setup or not. If the setup is required, some components (internet tools etc.) need to be installed from internet. But I desire that setup is not to be done from internet, but is to be done from the local machine. How can I find these components?
Here is the warning screen: (It's translated from another language.)
"Setup Windows Update:
The Windows Update on your computer: Internet Explorer and Internet Tools are not valid for your operating system. Setup will install the proper files from Internet. Do you want to continue?"

What do you mean by remote lock??? Do you mean lock the other computer, so that the other people could not input an value or interact with the application???
And what do you mean by restrict the use of other PCS...? As far as I know, if the machine join with the domain in the client/server network platform... an administrator could do most of their task to manage the user right and permission.

Hi,
I am having a problem with Remote Desktop. I cannot use Remote Desktop after having Microsoft Outlook open. Anyone ever hear of this problem?
Any help appreciated,

If it is possible, could you post an error message on that forum?

There is no error message or diagnostic of any kind. After having Outlook open (it doesn't matter if it is still open or not), I log into my workplace workstation. After just a few seconds, I lose the connection. The connection is not open long enough for me to do any work. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Royce

When will you get up and ask your question?

My first time on these forums.
Is this the right forum to ask questions about NTFS alternative data streams (ADS), Indexing Service and DSOFile?

Yes, it is. But you should give more explaination about the question that you ask. Do you have some problem with it or need to have and overview about its concept? Ok, anyway I still help you. I assume that need to know about its concept. Show let start from here about NTFS ADS[^], windows 2000 indexing service[^] and DSO File[^].

OK, here's what I really want to enquire about -
I am designing an application that uses ADS to keep extensive metadata (well beyond Custom properties) that describe GIS files,
and would like to be able to retain the streams on a medium such as CD-R or DVD.
What alternatives do I have to do that?
I would prefer to write something myself using C# or VB.NET - so the useful APIs would be a first step.
Hope you have some ideas;)

Last night, I 'volunteered' to upgrade a friends PC from 98SE to XP, a bad move!
XP does not see the cable modem on startup, powering down/up the modem when XP is running will make XP to see it and then it works OK.
I have seen reports that it could be a USB problem on the PC, has anyone had any experience of this?

I used to have an experience with my modem at home. I have one modem and my computer running windows xp. During the time that I turn my computer on without turnning the modem on too, the modem won't be detect and found in the Device manager of my computer properly dialog box. To solve it, I have to go to device manager windows and right click on my computer name and choose Scan for New Hardware . Then my modem would be found in the list. On the other hand, you should check the modem model and try to find its driver on the internet for windows xp (if it is possible). Try to find the search result in the Microsoft Knowledge base support website.[^]
