Is it possible to send sms from landline to mobilephone thruPC using a modem. If it is please help me with the code in VB6
|
|
|
|
|
No, since your modem can't connect to the phone. You'll have to go through an SMS service to send the message.
No, I don't have any example code. I've never had the wish to write such an application. If I wanted to send a message to someone, I just went to the website to do it.

I get your point, but I wanted the code to use in an programme that should send sms to clients as riminders through a modem connected to the landline.

Fine, your modem calls your ISP to get a normal Internet link and you still use an SMS server to send the message.

If you want to use your landline telephone account to send sms from a VB application you cannot do this. You can however create a VB application to send sms over any internet connection seamlessly.
As Dave said you need a service provider to handle the sms side of things. It basically uses a soap webservice that your application communicates with . We have sms in one of our applications. We use a service called textanywhere (www.textanywhere.net) which is cheap and really easy to use. They even provide code examples of how to use the service.

What way can you put code in a module to do the following at start up
1..Build a menu onto a MDI form
2..Put the MDI form properties in this module
I also had a problem when I had a MDI form and showed a new form. It was behind the MDI form.
I am new to VB.Net and trying hard to get with grips with it but I am still thinking VB6 mode.

You won't want to put that code in a module. If it's code specific to a form, put the code in that form.
Forms work VERY differently in VB.NET, or any of the laungages targeting the .NET Framework. You might want to read Working with Multiple Forms in Visual Basic .NET: Upgrading to .NET[^] before going any further.

Hi
Please can someone tell me how to implement drag and drop items like text boxes that allow user input, lines to connect text boxes etc to make a flow charts like the ones found Microsoft Visio for example etc
Thanks in advance!!
|
|
|
|
|
Take a look at the "Netron Project" and see if it meets your needs. It is a complete .NET library created for just the type of application you are refering to. It contains controls that look and feel like Visio (tier and flow charting) with 1000s of other useful tools and controls.

Hope this helps

I am reading a text file (line by line) from using streams. How can I detect if it contains a non-ascii or unicode chracters in .net
|
|
|
|
|
One way is to simply check if the value of each byte is greater than 127 for Standard Ascii characters (if that is all you want to be sure of). If you need to check for Standard and Extended Ascii characters then check the byte value and make sure it is not greater than 255.
Also remember, if your seeing characters it's ASCII or Unicode of some kind.
As far as the Unicode characters, you will need to specify a function similar to this one for getting the values based on the Unicode encoding you choose.
Here is a function that will tell give you a return value for Standard, Extended and non-ASCII values.
<code lang=vbnet>
Public Shared Function GetASCIIRating(ByVal Value As String) As Integer
Dim TestedValue As Byte
Try
TestedValue = CByte(Value)
Catch
Return -1
End Try
If (TestedValue >= 0 And TestedValue <=127) Then
Return 0
ElseIf (TestedValue > 127 And TestedValue <=255) Then
Return 1
Else
Return -1
End If
End Function
MsgBox(GetASCIIRating(56))
MsgBox(GetASCIIRating(132))
MsgBox(GetASCIIRating(256))
</code>
Hope this helps more than hurts,
Scott

Starting a new VB.Net project and crashed at first hurdle.
I am getting this error message >>>>
An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in Test.exe
What am I doing wrong?
And also how can stop the system putting in FormWindowState.Maximized. I just want = Maximised
How could I do this in a module rather than at form load?
***********
Private Sub frmMainMenu_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'Setup the frmMainMenu properties
frmMainMenu.ActiveForm.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized
frmMainMenu.ActiveForm.IsMdiContainer = True
frmMainMenu.ActiveForm.Text = "Main Menu"
End Sub
|
|
|
|
|
Why are you using ActiveForm ??? It's only for referring to MDI Child forms. You should be doing this:
Private Sub frmMainMenu_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'Setup the frmMainMenu properties
frmMainMenu.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized
frmMainMenu.IsMdiContainer = True
frmMainMenu.Text = "Main Menu"
End Sub
Also, since FormWindowState is an Enum, you can't stop it from putting that text in there. Besides, since it more complete describes when the value is that your assigning, thereby increading code readability, why would you want it to drop this?

What I am trying to do is the following....
1..Create a MDI form that has a menu from which I select a form e.g. add new record
2..In the MDI form, build that form's properties
The only way I thought I could do it was by the example I gave.
In the example you gave me, the only way I can get these objects is by doing the ActiveForm. I think I have missed something

Which form is this code you posted in? It looks like it's in the MDI Parent form. If this is teh case, since it is in the Load event of the MDI Parent, there can't possibly be any child forms yet, so ActiveForm will return Null. This is where your getting the Null Reference exception from. You're trying to call methods and set properties on something that doesn't exist yet.
Also, you said you were creating a child form and trying to set the properties on it? You never created a new form in the code you posted...

You might want to ask the people who actually wrote the library your using. Considering there are thousands upon thousands of controls and libraries out there, it's very unlikely your going to find anyone who knows anything about the library you're using.

im working on a program that places text into a listbox from a .txt file, but what I want to do is when a line in the listbox is clicked it will place the selected text from the listbox and place it into another text feild in a outside program like a word doc, website text field, or just a text field in another program. is there a way to do this?
thanks

May be you can do this with DDE, Dinamic Data Exchange, it works fine with Excel and work
DDE(Word!) = ListBox1.Text (I don't remmember very well, but is something like this)

I guess I dont understand this example if you could explain more that would be great, o and im using vb.net
thanks again

To grab the text from the listbox use
text=listbox.selecteditem.text
then depending on what program you want to write to very simply:
OpenFile(1,filename,outputmode)
Writeline(1,text)
FileClose(1)
something like this anyway.

I have a MainMenu with four levels of MenuItems. The value given in the "Name" property of each MenuItem is stored in a database table's column. The table also contains a second column used to Enable or Disable (1 for Enable and 0 for Disable) the MenuItem. While loading the form, I read all the names from the table's first column whose second column's value is 1. Then I have to enable all these MenuItems before the form is being displayed. Initially all the MenuItems are disabled. While the "Name" property is available at design time, I could not find it while coding. Please help me overcome this. Urgent.
