First of all VB6 apps has really an advantage over .Net apps because the overhead of loading the framework is not there. Then normally when a .Net app starts up the jit has much to do which slows down the startup time. At least the second can be reduced. Search for NGen on google. Its a tool coming with the SDK which lets you precompile assemblies which can reduce start up time greatly (depending on what exactly happens on your start up).

so what ? how and where do you write your code ? with notepad ?
if you write with visual studio, so you certainly write into vb files into a project registered into the solution...
what is your problem actually ?

Hi all, I am a new vb.net programmer wanna be and I gotten most of the basics on vb.net. But I am having a hard time trying to grasp database programming.. when I mean database programming, i mean trying to make my vb.net access a MS access file (*.mdb) and do editing and updating and displaying the data on a text box and all..
Wondering whether anyone out there with this knowledge can help me out, or better yet, have some kind of ebook that can go step by step with nice little DIY samples on this subject.
Thanz for your time..

One of the first things to pick up on is the connection string. A good reference is www.connnectionstrings.com to get you started.
A decent reference for selecting, inserting, updating and deleting records in a database is msdn.microsoft.com.
You can also stop by a book store and pick up a book on database's. I have codeing websites and windows forms to database's for 5yrs and still need to reference something, but that just might be my memory.....
ps - I also found www.asp101.net a good starting point.

Will do, thanz for the suggestion... As to go to a book store and get a good book, I wish I could. Where I lived in, have the world's crappiest book collection in the whole world, not to mentioned outdated. Only way is either go to West Malaysia or Singapore and visit their amazingly huge book stores there but air plane tickets ain't exactly cheap.. haha..
Anyway, thanz for your help... Ur the man...!!

What do you mean by "in LAN area"?
If your asking if a VB program can access network resources, then yes, it can. But that all depends on what your talking about.

In my opinion, if it is possible, try to buy this book[^]. I think it could help you to work in LAN from your VB.NET application.

Ok guys,
I really had about enough!
I need to be able to add bookmarks to the report after exporting it to pdf..
I instantiated Interop.Acrobat.DLL..so i can access the Acrobat library
what i do is that i search for a specified text that i want to book, then i bookmark it...the code works fine when i'm in the debug mode and step into each line, but when i run the code..it gives me Untitled bookmark that points to the 1st page in the document!..
the other thing is that i don't know how to create child or sibling bookmarks to the parent one!
and is it possible to call an application such as Acrobat in the background so whom ever runs the this VB.Net application won't be having the Adobe application screen flashing in their face and then disappearing after doing the bookmarks?
I really need help on that
not so many resources available online about Acrobat & VB.Net

I am using Directoryinfo object to move a directory on c:\ to d:\. But it's not possiable as destination cannot be another disk volume.
Is there a way that I can move or copy a folder to another volume.

Thanks Christian
This only moves the files.
What i want is to move the whole directory to another volume.
I have a directory with thousands of files. I want to move the entire directory to another volume.

|
|

Even this dosen't work across volumes. I have already tried this.

It won't copy from the C drive the to D drive ? I find that hard to believe.
