I want to navigate the whole web page with the next and previous buttons. My data is scattered all over the page and so its not fixed at a particular position there by limiting me to use the Datalist, DataGrid or repeater controls. So how can I enable paging in the entire Web Form. I wish I could attach a file to show you what I mean. Please write your e-mail address so that I can attach an image of the web form i am talking about.

I'm using IIS 5.1 on a windows XP box and I am trying to access files in a folder on another machine in my domain. I am using visual studio 2003 and created a asp.net web aplication using visual basic. I have a simple button that calls a DIR command so see if a file exists. If I do this to a local file it returns the file name and everything is ok. If I try to find a file in \\Fileserver1\Data1\test.txt which I know exists it retuns blank (not found). I tried using anonymous access and putting in a user and password who is a domain admin to try to avoid rights issues. I've also tried basic authentication and put in a user who is a domain admin and I still cann't see the file. Is this just not possible because of the hashing of the password? My ultimate goal is to access FoxPro tables that reside on fileserver1. Any advice would be great even if it is this cann't be done.

you are corret. Asp.net uses the ASPNET user by default no matter what the anonymous user account is. This ASPNET user is autocreated by .net setup and has an autogenerated password. It is a local account. If you wish to change the password or changed the user asp.net uses you need to edit the machine.config file in the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\CONFIG subfolder. Look for the "

If I put this code following ©, should it not write '2005'? In IE it does, but it writes '105' in Firefox, NS (except 8beta), and Opera.

try getFullYear() .
p.s FF, NS and Opera seems to do it quite right ("getYear() Returns the year of a Date object (from 0-99). Use getFullYear instead !!" W3 Schools[^] )

hi
i want to use java script files to store data in client computer
like google's gmail mechanism for auto complete and speed matter.
but i don't know how i can hide this file(which containes user data) from
hackers just like gmail(i can't find gmail data in my computer and i can't save gmail page correctly to see my data stored in some files!)
how gmail does it? and how i can prevent jscript file saving request from user?
i'm wating
thanks

Actually, that isn't the way it works. Gmail stores the user data on their end and passes it along with the web page.
Javascript can't store data on the client's computer. It can if you run the script locally, but the activeX component which does it is disabled if you run it off a web server (this is a security measure Microsoft put in place).
What I would do is create a database of user information on your site and pass the necessary information in as metadata with the page. It is much more secure and a whole lot easier to deal with. Besides, the user can get his/her information on your site without having to be on the same computer each time.

hi JKroschel
thanx to your reply
i have a sample that shows how javascript files can store data on clinet computer(data can be stored in array structure and can be retrived in html pages by refrencing array).this sample works great and excactly like gmail's address book match finder script.if u want i can send this sample to u.but my problem is that i can't find out how gmail hides user data(js files) from unauthorized users in clineet computer.
i become so glad to talk on this subject to u.
bye

I agree. It may seem very fast because it uses xmlhttprequest to get the data from the server, without reloading the page, with javascript. Read up on the newly coined phrase "AJAX". or try this one:

I guess I stand corrected. I'd love to see the code that can do that...Could you post it?
In any case, it will still be more efficient if you store the users' data on your server so the user can work with his or her information on multiple computers. This is also more secure because then you don't need to worry about other people getting access to someone else's information, which sounds like the problem you are trying to fix.

There are many of them...
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" is one.
Run regedit.exe, type ctrl+F and type "Internet Explorer" in search box...
Be careful! I once played with registry settings for IE and ended up reinstalling Windows.

Doesn't sound like the sort of question that can be answered in the available space.

Google has tons of them.

The company I work for has been using MS Visual Interdev for several years for ASP Web Development and love the way it lets you work on a website. However we've been running into the limitations of VI in reguard to HTML formatting, XHTML and ADA Compliance so we're looking for a new tool.
Here are all of the features I would love to see in a single IDE. Can anyone recommend some IDEs that will meet some or all of these?
Ideal Features:
-Syntax Highlighting for HTML, XML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP, ASP.net(C# and VB.net), and PHP
-Code Completion and validation for all of the above
-Allows working directly on a remote website via FTP or FrontPage Extensions. Opening the site should provide some sort of site explorer listing files on the site with the ability to open a file, edit it, and save it back to the server.
-WYSIWYG HTML Editor is NOT required or desired
-Must not modify, reformat, or rewrite any content entered into a file
-Support pre-compiling ASP.net code-behind pages
-Support source control integration with Subversion when working on local copies of source code (such as doing .net development)
-Run on Windows, Mac, and Linux
-Does NOT have an obscene per developer/workstation licensing cost
-Does NOT require any additional software to be installed on a remote server to operate
I know I'll probably never find a single IDE that meets all of the above, but I'd like to find the closest IDE possible.
Thanks,
Shawn.

Hi minhpc_bk,
Thank you for your good information.
Is there any way to find out whether the "Visual Studio .NET Remote Debugging Components" are installed in my system or not.
why I am asking this questions is...
I am running dcomcnfg.exe through command prompt, but I am not getting expected "Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog box";Instead I am getting "Component Services" MMC application.
Could you please explore me how setup Remote Debugging.
Thanks in Advance.

Depending on the current windows OS being used on the machine, the path to configure DCOM is different. In this case, after you open the MMC, you can follow the path as below:
Console Root\Component Services\Computers\My Computer\DCOM config\Machine Debug Manager Now, you simply right click on it to open the Properties dialog box and go to the security tab.
Another way to check if the remote debugging components are installed on the machine is that you can take a look at the user groups available on the machine to see if the 'Debugger Users' group is in the list. If yes, the components are installed already. Remember to add the user to this group to do the remote debugging. For more information, you can see Remote Debugging Setup[^]
