Hello,
I want to create a background service for my mobile phone which will check if new files are created or changed in a predefined directory. I used the FileSystemWatcher of OpenNetCF but the problem is that when the application lost his focus the watcher is not working anymore.
Anyone know how to make a service with .Net or embedded C++?
Best regards,
WithPit

This is my first project in mobile development. I am using Visual Studio 2005 beta to develop a mobile app. In my mobile project I have a visual layer and I added another project with was going to be the DAL. My intention was to try and replicate the same concepts as desktop development. When I go in to try and deploy this project on an emulator the DAL project which should have been a dll does not seem to be making it to the emulator.
What could I be doing wrong ? Any ideas.

I found a funny macro like stuff for Nokia9500 (sBasic80 - google it...). It's still missing somethings so I had to imlement some stuff like InStr etc..
First project is JAWBREAKER, it's gonna be ready till 050729.
Anyone knows if JAWBREAKER can be implemented on any other OS than ms windows ce? (copyright stuff...)
Is it possible to publish it freely? I found some C# implementations for windows.

Hi,
To my understanding, the way Palm time is stored on a Palm device is different than Windows. Anyone have any algorithms or libraries to convert Palm to Windows? (my Conduit library is being developed in .NET) To my understanding there is an issue of Big vs Little Endian as well.

I don't understand it!
I want to test a pocket pc 2003 base application written in compact framework 2 beta.
I have tried to run an application on the Visual Studio beta 2 (the latest one) and also in other versions (windbay), but the emulator simply won't start.
In the latest version it tells me he's got some problems with the "TCP connection" and in the Windbay he tell me even if i run a new blank form after build that he's got "Development Errors".
What can i do? i want to use the Compact Framework 2, but i can't test if without the 2005 built in emulator which does not work.
P.S: in the lastest version when i tried to connect through the active sync my Ipaq 3360 which has a pocket pc 2003 OS, it says that my operating system is not updated. what should i update there? what does this mean?

Presently I’m working on Win CE for Pocket PC and I’m trying to do some enhancements to an existing Win CE application.
The application has originally support for USB and Acitve Sync and other connectiviry mediums and right now I’m working on the Bluetooth connectivity mechanism.
The win CE application should connect to a host application that resides on a PC (windows XP). On Win CE side I’m trying to use Microsoft stack and on the PC side I’m using widcomm stack.
I’m trying winsock over Bluetooth but I’m not sure if my approach is correct as it is new to me. J
These are the steps I’m doing..
Creating the server socket(winsock)
socket (AF_BT, SOCK_STREAM, BTHPROTO_RFCOMM);
creating the socket address structure
SOCKADDR_BTH address ;
memset (&address, 0, sizeof(address));
address.addressFamily = AF_BT;
address.port = channel & 0xff; //here channel is set to zero as suggested in Microsoft site.
binding the socket to the address.
iRes=bind(m_ThisSocket,(sockaddr*)&address,sizeof(address));
then listen on the socket created
listen(m_ThisSocket,5);
Then accept the incoming client connection.
SOCKADDR_BTH sa2;
int size = sizeof(sa2);
m_ClientSocket = accept (m_ThisSocket, (SOCKADDR *)&sa2, &size);
After this point can we assume that the connection is established? Please let me know if I’m missing any step . The problem I face is the client (windows PC side) socket is not able to connect to the server socket.
I have also been trying to use virtual COM port over Bluetooth and not been able to connect the device with the PC.
Any inputs will be of great help to me.
Regards,
iBeanz

Hi iBeanz,
As far as I know,Pocket PC uses the widcomm stack and not Microsoft stack,so you can't using Winsock for bluetooth communication.
You have 2 options:
The first is to buy Widcomm SDK in order to use the stack.
The second is to use Bluetooth serial port(I think its COM7 or COM8 - but you can check it with your PocketPC bluetooth manager).
When you open the bluetooth serial port,the bluetooth manager will open a dialog to select the target device,and also will do the pairing.
after the pairing - you can use this serial port to send and receive data(using ReadFile and WriteFile functions).

Eli

People, I have met with a problem. I try to inherit forms. The Visual Studio raises an error saying that : The designer could not be shown for this file because none of the classes within it can be designed. The designer inspected the following classes in the file:
MenuBaseForm --- The base class 'SWT.SMTForm' could not be loaded. Ensure the assembly has been referenced or built if it is part of the project.
Did someone meet the same problem?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
I said that

The VS.NET Compact Framework forms designer does not support inherited forms. We handle this by creating a new project configuration 'Designer'. In this configuration we define the preprocessor symbol DESIGNER_SUPPORT . Then, at the top of the class, we put a #if block as follows:
#if DESIGNER_SUPPORT
public class MyInheritedForm : System.Windows.Forms.Form
#else
public class MyInheritedForm : BaseForm
#endif When you want to use the designer, you select the Designer configuration. Once you've finished designing, you set the active configuration back to Debug or Release as appropriate.
Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder

Hi all,
I'm a newbie on Windows CE plattforms. I'd like to enable and configure a RAS server on the Windows CE .NET 4.2 but I don't know how or even know if it's installed on the image that is running. How can I do that?
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
Can somebody explain me the various IPC mechanisms supported in Win CE? I have heard that it doesn't support anonymous as well as named pipes.
Also , what are the various pros and cons of using various IPC mechanisms?
Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Andy.

Hi,
I wrote a Windows CE.NET 4.2 program to get the firmware serial number from an IDE harddisk. The platform isn't pocket pc. It is a CE.NET embedded device using AMD Geode (x86-based) CPU with Single-board computer and an IDE harddisk.
The reason to get the serial number is to use it as a key for licensing a software. I used the DeviceIoControl Win32 API with the io control code of IOCTL_DISK_GET_STORAGEID (0x709). It worked. However, when I double check with the actual serial number printed on the hdd itself, I found that every 2 bytes of the number was flipped.
A simple solution could be to simply flip the bytes back but I wish to know the exact reason why the bytes were flipped. Is it because the API actually reads every 2 bytes of the serial number as WORD? This could be the case since probably the number is stored as a character string on the firmware.
e.g. "1234"
But if the API reads word by word, and the Geode is x86-based (little endian), the flipping will occur which will cause it to be "2143". In that case, I would need to check the processor's endianness before reading the serial number. What then is the way to get the CPU's endianness?
I would wish to develop a generic solution and not be tied down to a certain hardware platform. So I would like to ask if any of you had encountered such a similar case be it on an embedded CE.NET device or PPC 2003 device.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
