Hi,
I am working on a fairly good sized .NET CF application (single process, multi-threaded) that runs on WinCE 5.0. The application is all C#, with a decent amount of p/invokes into OS calls and a 3rd party native DLL.
I have been trying to use the Remote Heap Walker to examine the applications heap and have run into the following issue:
When I use Remote Heap Walker I see my application and Heap Walker shows is as having 3 Heap regions. One of the heap regions HF32_DEFAULT flag set, the other 2 do not. I am able to examine the contents of the 2 heap regions that do not have the HF32_DEFAULT flag set, but when I try to examine the one that does have the flag, the Heap Walker application does the following:
Writes this to the debug output:
Data Abort: Thread=96b74da8 Proc=91ed8e40 'CEHWCLI.EXE'
AKY=00040001 PC=000117c4(CEHWCLI.EXE+0x000017c4) RA=001af000(CEHWCLI.EXE+0x0019f00) BVA=261b1000 FSR=00000007
And pops up a window to the display showing a fatal application Error.
My application is still running just fine and shows no ill effects. The reason I started using the Heap Walker is due to some random data aborts that pop up from time to time. Also, I am sometimes seeing the application gobble up all the memory on the WinCE device. Both of these occur sporadically, and not on all devices.
Does the Heap Walker tool throwing a data abort mean that the heap is corrupted (it happens every time, even just after applicaiton start up), or is there something incompatible with Heap Walker and large .NET CF applications?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
I'm developing an PocketPC application in C# that requires to output several lines in a textbox, including newlines. First, having a C background, i tried \n which was unsuccessfull. After googling, i found to put System.Environment.Newline or ControlChars.CrLf, but non of them seem to work..
Do i need to be using a certain namespace?
I'm sure it's an easy answer, but i fail to find it..
Thank you,
Michael

Does anyone have an idea why my PPC application won't work correctly with my web services any more now that I changed my web service namespace using the [WebService(Namespace="http://mydomain.com")] directive. The error message I get now is that it can't find the tempuri object:
"Cannot find type for http://tempuri.org/:LocationInfo"
I updated the web reference. I've deleted all related assemblies and applications to force a re-build on both the PPC side and the Web Service side. I've even opened all of the project and source files looking for the string "tempuri" and it doesn't exist anywhere. Any ideas?
Thanks.

It would just require a simple mailer program, which is already installed on your PocketPC.. I'd say you'd have work with getting an e-mail interpreter on your desktop..
Just my 2 cents,

Hey my follow developers
I have searched far and wide, but it seems that there is no really good article on how to create your own active sync modules! I have a little PPC that I capture data on, and I would like it to sync with my desktop PC and vice versa!
I am using eVC++ (PPC), VC++ (PC), and Access(DB) as development tools at the moment!
If there is anybody out there that can help me in this regards, PLEASE pop my some mail! I can be found at willem_leroux@hotmail.com (Private) or wlr@lmobile.co.za (Work)
Kind greetings
Willem

Hi Willem,
I'm afraid I'm pretty useless to help you because I'm only just starting playing with ActiveSync myself, but if it's any use, have you seen the RCMD project on this website (search for "RCMD").
Also, I've picked up a couple of pages on MSDN for myself, they're probably not what you're looking for but it might give you a lead so here they are anyway:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307256#kb1
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=831883
Sorry I'm not much use but I hope this is some help, happy hunting,
Mark

Hi,
I wrote a few activesync providers back in 2000-2001. IIRC there should be 2 sample projects that you can work from. A simple filesync example generated from a wizard and a database sync example called stock portfolio.
Also, there used to be an old article called 'Programmer's guide for ActiveSync' in MSDN. It's a bit dated, but it was a big help for me.

if u mean that by sending the message from the
mobile By SMS then its quit simple .
U need to connect a simple Mobile by its serial
port to computers serial port, my friend had used
Nokia 1100 mobile .
When a new msg is recieved he check that is the
specific packet for Switching the Appliances.If
it was then he parse the packet and sends the
output to the parallel port .
For SMS u need to study the AT codes (get in goole)
You can use either Bluetooh or Infrared for the
same work that SMS does but need addtional Hardware.

When attempting to connect my WindowsCE project to a Windows2000 desktop PC via ActiveSync(v3.5), I am finding that I can only get a connection if I delay creating a process to run "repllog.exe" in the WinCE app until after manually running ActiveSync on the desktop PC and selecting "Get Connected". If I start repllog too soon then I don't get a connection, ie. ...
STEP 1:
At the desktop PC...
run
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\WCESMgr.exe"
Select from the "File" menu,
"Get Connected..."
Click the "Next" button on the "Get Connected" window
STEP 2:
Wait a couple of seconds, then at the remote WindowsCE application...
cause the application to call
CreateProcess(_T("Windows/repllog.exe"), NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, 0, NULL, NULL, NULL, &m_procInfo);
If STEP 2 is actioned at any time before STEP 1, I don't get a connection. Can anyone tell me why this might be? Is it possible that the SDK for the embedded device is lacking some ActiveSync functionality? Is it to do with event sequencing within the ActiveSync "black box"?
Also, I have tried the CODE PROJECT "Command-line utility for PocketPC (RCMD.exe)" project by Alexander Shilonosov. I have this working perfectly well between the desktop PC and a PocketPC. However, when I swap the PocketPC with my WindowsCE project I don't get a connection at all. Once again, does anyone have any ideas please (seems likely that this problem is the same problem as the one above)? Should I be doing more than just running repllog in the WindowsCE application?
This is the first time I've tried to do anything like this so I'm afraid I'm rather green!!! so thanks to everyone and anyone who can help.

I'm developing a pocket pc application that monitoring the gprs traffic,
to do this I found this article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/iphlp/iphlp/getiftable.asp
This is my code:
// Declare and initialize variables
PMIB_IFTABLE ifTable;
PMIB_IFROW pMibIfRow;
DWORD dwSize = 0;
DWORD dwRetVal = 0;
// Allocate memory for our pointers
ifTable = (MIB_IFTABLE*) malloc(sizeof(MIB_IFTABLE));
pMibIfRow = (MIB_IFROW*) malloc(sizeof(MIB_IFROW));
// Make an initial call to GetIfTable to get the
// necessary size into the dwSize variable
if (GetIfTable(ifTable, &dwSize, 0) == ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER){
GlobalFree(ifTable);
ifTable = (MIB_IFTABLE *) malloc (dwSize);
}
// Make a second call to GetIfTable to get the
// actual data we want
if ((dwRetVal = GetIfTable(ifTable, &dwSize, 0)) == NO_ERROR) {
if (ifTable->dwNumEntries > 0){
for(DWORD i=0; i< ifTable->dwNumEntries; i++){
MIB_IFROW mir = ifTable->table[i];
if(mir.dwType == MIB_IF_TYPE_PPP){
DWORD dwTotal = mir.dwInOctets + mir.dwOutOctets;
return dwTotal;
}
}
}
}
else{
STLOG_WRITE("Errore in GetIfTable %d",dwRetVal);
}
GlobalFree(ifTable);
return 0;
This code work good for about 3 hours, but for an unknow reason the function GetIfTable return ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER, and I don't understand why.
Can someone help me?
Thanks

I´m writing a program for printing to bluetooth serial port profile.
Since it is managed like a serial port connection I´m able to send data to the printer, but the problem is that if I turn off the printer while sending data, the application doen´t detect it.
Could anyone tell me if there is some way to check the status of the connection ?
Thanks
