Hi all
i'm actually looking for a C++ program that allows me to remove the tags from a html file so that it can be displayed as simple text...is there anywhere i can get this ? its part of a school project.....thanks

PHP has a function called strip_tags() that does this. I'm sure if you download the code, you'll be able to find the function and use its code as an example.

.NET will make writing a common standalone/web app easier but it won't work for palm pilots as that isn't a supported .NET platform.
A lot depends on what application you are going to write. Currently I use ATL/COM with ASP (web) and MFC (standalone windows app). The COM components containing the code that both applications require.

My work involves interaction with data base (MS Access / SQL Server / Oracle). Currently going with VB 6.0 and classes for interaction with DB.
What actually I need is - I want make it work for web, Client/server and for Win CE with out much bothering.
Kindly suggest a way

I'd use VB and ADO for the Client/Server and Win CE applications. I'd use VBScript and ADO for the web side. If you use stored procedures on the database side then you should be able to re-use the vast majority of your code across the three platforms.
.NET may make the job easier but the Win CE tools and framework aren't yet available.

As I fill a CListCtrl (report view) with items, I would like to prevent/disable particular row(s)from becoming selected by user.
I know the row's index !

I would think that intercepting the CListCtrl WM_LMOUSEDOWN message would allow you to test if the message is enabled. Then you can decide whether to return or to call the base classes left mouse button handler.Stephen Caldwell

You can handle the LVN_ITEMCHANGING notification for the ListView. If you return FALSE from this handler, then the change is not made. So in your handler, you'll have to see if the change is to the selected state, if it is, and the item is one you don't want selected, return FALSE.

use a proxy ! it does not depend of you to show or hide your ip ! when you connect to the mail server it logs you automatically !

I'm working on a project to create a simple children's geography game. I've taken some networking courses in college which helped me to understand many of the networking concepts, but the course was very weak on the actual coding instructions.
What I'm looking for is some sort of client/server C++ or Visual Basic program that can realistically be run within our LAN CSLab. This program needs a simple log on feature that allows the user to input their name, and have it sent to the server, and possibly stored on a text file to be accessed from in our game code. The client and server also need to be able to send simple instructions back and forth while running our game code. We are thinking of sending simple number messages ("1", "2", and "3") from client to server to be used to determine what happens while playing the game.
Let me know if you have any VERY simple resources that can help me out. I really need some flexible code that isn't too difficult to understand or explain.

One item I have never seen a sample of (so if you know of one please pass it along) is the code to make an application look like a hard drive to the OS. For my needs an NT/Win2000 service would be fine. What I need is to have a new applications data be access (and effectivly created on demand) from legacy code. If this new application could make an interface that looks like a drive to the system legacy code could just use the file open and then select data options as though it was reading from disk.
A second and probably more common option would be to expose the contents from an FTP or HTTP server be accessible directly for applications as though the connection was a local disk.
Am I just being crazy here?

There are programs that do things similar to what you want to do. You can use shell extensions to simulate an add'l hard drive on the system which will actually connect to the internet and download from/upload to/query the server. Check out the shell extension articles.

This allows you to add namespaces to the shell. It somewhat like adding a virtual hard drive in the sense that you are looking for. Hope it helps.

Im actually implementing such a kinda thing (Ur second option )for my J2EE Product where the J2EE Product is a WebAPP and i have to represent the whole server file structure on windows as a NameSpace Extension on windows - I have written custom communication components for the HTTP /J2EE Web Application - Actually the Windows Client is a Windows Shell NameSpace Extension - A Non-ROOTED NameSpace Extension .You can drag and drop the files from and to into this "Virtual HardDisk" and the component uploads / downloads into / from the server -
