So long as the account that is running your app has the rights to see the files Modified date/time, it should work. There's nothing special to configure.
I don't know of anything that changed between versions.

I am developing an application that gets streaming video from an ip camera and creates a set of .avi files. I need some way of compressing these individual files (hopefully from within my application) and then decompressing them for playback. Any suggestions?
|
|
|
|
|
Video is usually saved in compressed form. That, of course, depends on the graph that's building the .AVI file from the video source. But, for the most part, the file is already compressed, so trying to compress it again usually won't get you more than 1% reduction in size.

Ok, not sure exactly how to word this so here goes. I have a winform in my project that has the following:
Controls
1. DropDownList1 - Customer Name
2. TextBox1 - Customer ID
3. DropDownList2 - Site Name
DataBase Tables
1. tblCust - Fields(CustName, CustID, Status)
2. tblCustSiteAssoc - Fields(CustId, CustSiteID)
3. tblCustSite - Fields(CustSiteID, CustSiteName, ...)
What I am trying to do is this:
1. When the form open have customers names bound to the DropDownList1 control with nothing selected
2. Once I select something in the DropDownList1 control (SelectedIndexChanged) have it update the other two controls with the selected customers' data.
I assume I make a DataSet that queries all three tables and I understand how to bind the CustName to the first DropDownList box. What I don't understand is how to use the selected information to get the relevant information for the other two controls.
Thanks in advance,

When you create your Dataset define a relation between all three tables. It may be better to do this back at the underlying database. Then bind all three controls to the DataSet as you normally would. Now when you select something from DropDownList1 the other two controls will display the proper related data.
I hope this helps.

Ok I think I need to break this down a little bit more for the relation:
Table1
CustID - PriKey - linked to Table2(CustID)
CustName
Status
Table2
CustID
CustSiteID
Table3
CustSiteID - PriKey - linked to Table2(CustSiteID)
CustSiteName
Addr1
Addr2
City
State
etc...
I have relationships setup like above. I created a new DataSet Item from Add New Item in IDE. Then it asks me to select Tables which I select the three above. It then adds these three tables to the designer with relationships and TableAdapters configured and all.
I then go to DropDownList1 and set the DataSource to the DataSet. It creates a binding source and then I set DisplayMember to CustName and it creates a new TableAdapter.
Now I want to select a customer name in DropDownList1 and have it filter DropDownList2 so that only SiteName shows that has a relationship between CustID and CustSiteID. I can only get DropDownList2 to list all SiteName. I can't figure out how to filter it.
Thanks,
Taen Karth

To filter use a DataView. You could say something like this:
DropDownList2.DataSource = DataSet.Table3.DefaultView
DropDownList2.DisplayMember = "CustSiteName"
But, since you have the tables related to each other I don't think filtering is neccessary. Instead set it up like this:
DropDownList2.DataSource = DataSet.Table3
DropDownList2.DisplayMember = "CustSiteName"
Since Table3 is in a relation it will show the proper records in DropDownList2
Also, I think you could elliminate Table2 and have CustID in Table3.

Is it possible to insert a web address in a console project as a hyperlink, and if so, how? I have a function to return a concatenated string as a complete link, but I have found no info as to whether or not it can be active.

As a console application just reads and writes to the Standard In, Standard Out and Standard Error streams it is up to the container (normally the command prompt) to activate links.

While I can change the text which appears in the title bar on my Windows forms, is it possible to change the Font property too?
|
|
|
|
|
Not easily. You have to override WndProc and supply the code to draw the non-client area of your form yourself.
The title bars use the systems Display control panel properties, following the theme picked by the user.

I am quoting a clear example of the Junction table, in Northwind sample database.
When employing this database in a DataGrid, I receive DataConstraint Exception Error in the Junction table "Order Details" or in the "Orders" table, with the following error message:
"Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints."
On displaying one of the errant tables, each row complains as below:
"ForeignKeyConstraint, Shipper_Order (for example) requires the child key values ????? to exist in the parent table.
NOTES:
1- I established Relations just according to the ones in MS Access application.
2- The Same Database is Functioning normally inside MS Access application.
3- I am mainly concerned about the Junction table.
I need professional guidance as this is a study project, I am working on.

is it possible to develop a GUI designer that will generate code in java using vb?
|
|
|
|
|
Yes, but you'll have to supply all the code for writing the Java code and stringing it together properly for creating your UI. The .NET Framework doesn't have anything to do it for you.
Your next stop should be Google and "java UI designer source". But with all the ones that currently exist, why would you want to reinvent the wheel, again?

1.How can I allocate memory(dinamic) in vb 6?
2. How can I create aLinked List in VB 6?
|
|
|
|
|
1. Depends on what you mean by "allocate memory dynamically", and what you're using it for. VB6 doesn't have anything to allocate memory like C/C++ can, and doesn't support pointers like it either.
2. Easy. Google for "vb6 linked list[^]".

Hi everybody
I wrote a program in Vb.Net, it can open a text file (*.txt). But I don't know how to make my program that when I click on any text file (*.txt) then my program will run and open this text file.

Set that up in your folder options under file types. For the txt file type set your program to open instead of notepad or whatever.

Fill your dataset, create a dataview based on row number in dataset, bind dataview to datagrid. In KeyUp event, +/- row selection.

Hi gurus
I have a newbie question
I have a test plan for the mechanical device, which look a bit like
1. measure this voltage
2. write down the color of the wire
2.1 ....
2.2 ....
3. etc
I would like to create the front end, which would diplay the plan from the excel spreadsheet and allow technician to respond to the items of the plan. Sometimes technician must put the yes/no answer and sometimes put the comment as a result of the test.
I don't want to invent bisycle and assume somebody already done this. Could you point me to the good article/book or ready made program for fulfilling such task?
I put the question into VB forum, because my research up to now shows that such ready-made-program doesn't exist and I will need to write one.

I'm writing a class project in visual studio 2003.
Part of the data used by the classes is stored in xml files that the user will be able to edit.
The classes are used by other applications and an end user could have more than one of these applications on their machine.
How do I distribute the classes so that they know where to find the xml data files every time and they are only saved once.
I had originally used the Application.StartupPath to find the folder where the class dll file is stored but, when I create another application the value returned by Application.StartupPath doesn't return the folder where the xml data files are stored it returns (quite rightly) the folder of the original application.
Any idea on how I go about distributing and accessing these xml files?
Any help would be gratefully received as this is a project I intend to open up on a 'do-what-you-want' licence without copyright and for all to use.
Thanks in advance
