You can do that quite easily by writing your code inside a try/catch block like below:
try
{
DateTime <code>tmp</code> = DateTime.Parse(this.textBox1.Text);
}
catch (Exception exc)
{
MessageBox.Show("This is not a valid date\n\nError Message: " + exc.Message);
return;
}
MessageBox.Show("Date is valid");

Polis
Can you practice what you teach?

Hi,
If you are using McAfee anti virus scanner, do the following:
1. Right click the McAfee task bar icon and open "VirusScan Console" window.
2. From VirusScan console window righ click the "Buffer Overflow Protection" option and disable it.
3. Run your application again.
Happy Programming!!!

Hi there,
Can someone please provide me with the steps or a good resource that explains in detail how can I call a COM C# Server from a VC++ 6.0 Client...
There is an article on codeproject that describes well the C# part but it doesn't get much in the details of calling it from the VC++ client.
Can someone please help out?
Cheers,

Thanks a lot Amit,
Shall I write the following command in the command prompt after reaching the project's folder?
csc /target:library /out:ECSLink.dll ECSLink.cs
tlbexp ECSLink.dll /verbose
I set the "register for COM Interoperability" to "true",won't that eliminate the need to write the above commands?
Another thing is that I get an error message when trying to run these commands from the command prompt telling me that they are an unidentified internal or external commands?
Any idea why?Is there something wrong with my installation?
Shall I place both the C# COM Server and C++ Client in the same folder?
Thanks again Amit,
Eagle

definately you can write the commad using .net command prompt which is available at
Programs->Visual Stdio.net 2003->Visual Stdio.Net Tools->Visual Stdio Commad Prompt
running command from from .net command promplt resolve ur problem " Undentified internal or external commands"
i am not sure but i think it would eliminate the need to write the command. if you set " Register for Com Interoperability" to true.

Thanks a million Amit,
But what about the command that is used for building the cpp file.
"cl filename.cpp"
What will I use in this case since it's a VC++ 6.0 file?

Hi,
I am writting application that uses the funcion RasDial ...
from some reason i am allways getting error in the return value
it is always 87...?
the prototype is like this
[DllImport("rasapi32.dll",CharSet=CharSet.Auto)]
public extern static uint RasDial(IntPtr lpRasDialExtentoins,string phoneBook,RasDialParams lpRasDialParams,int dwNotifierType,RasCallBack lpNotifier,RASCONN lpRasConn);
the delegate is defined like this:
public delegate void RasCallBack(uint unMsg,RasConnectionState connectionState,int dwError);
and the usage is like this
RasDialParams dialParams; //Holds the RAS Dial parameters;
RasCallBack notifier;
RASCONN rasConn;
bool pass;
uint retVal;
//Retriving the dial parameters
dialParams = new RasDialParams();
dialParams.dwSize = Marshal.SizeOf(typeof(RasDialParams));
dialParams.szEntryName = m_name;
retVal = RASDialerResources.RasGetEntryDialParams(m_phoneBook, ref dialParams,out pass);
if(retVal != 0 )
{
throw new Exception("Could not get the dial parameters");
}
//Preforming the dial up
dialParams.szUserName = username;
dialParams.szPassword = password;
rasConn = new RASCONN();
rasConn.dwSize = Marshal.SizeOf(typeof(RASCONN));
notifier = new RasCallBack(PPPoEDialer.RasNotifier);
retVal = RASDialerResources.RasDial(IntPtr.Zero,m_phoneBook,dialParams,0,notifier,rasConn);
if(retVal!=0)
{
throw new Exception("Could not Start the ras dial");
}
m_rasHandle = rasConn.hrasconn;
hope that u can help me

Dear Sandeep,
Try setting the autoscroll attribute of the form properties to "true".
Then adjust the width & height in the size attribute of the from properties to what you like.
Hope this helps.
All the Best,
Eagle

I'm not sure that this is the place for my question
but I really need your help on this one.
Is there any way to pass parameters to Crystal Reports
to be used in a query without calling a stored-procedure?

Below is an example Exception.String copied from a MessageBox. How does one extract the exception information individually? The Exception class allows access to some of this information individually such as Exception.Message, but not all. Relevant to my use would be to extrat the information on the last line where it gives location information about the error. Do i have to use Regular Expressions on Exception.String or is there an easier way?
