Thats easily the worst advice ive read here! DONT use varchar to store a date!
Also, to THE OP - Timestamp is a special type of binary column, and is not used to store time as the name does imply. To store date and time just create a Date column, which will store a date and time perfectly.
Remember to use parameterized queries (for dates especially as the command will take care of inserting the date correctly)

Instead of storing a DateTime variable store a long (8 byte).
convert the DateTime variable to a long by:
DateTime A = <sometime>;
long B = DateTime.Ticks;
in order to convert the long number back to DateTime do:
DateTime AA = DateTime.MinValue + TimeSpan.FromTicks(B);

You can do that quite easily by writing your code inside a try/catch block like below:
try
{
DateTime <code>tmp</code> = DateTime.Parse(this.textBox1.Text);
}
catch (Exception exc)
{
MessageBox.Show("This is not a valid date\n\nError Message: " + exc.Message);
return;
}
MessageBox.Show("Date is valid");

Can you practice what you teach?

System.IO.Stream stream = rsp.GetResponseStream();
System.IO.StreamReader reader = new System.IO.StreamReader(stream);
this.textBox1.Text = reader.ReadToEnd();

Hi,
If you are using McAfee anti virus scanner, do the following:
1. Right click the McAfee task bar icon and open "VirusScan Console" window.
2. From VirusScan console window righ click the "Buffer Overflow Protection" option and disable it.
3. Run your application again.
Happy Programming!!!

Hi there,
Can someone please provide me with the steps or a good resource that explains in detail how can I call a COM C# Server from a VC++ 6.0 Client...
There is an article on codeproject that describes well the C# part but it doesn't get much in the details of calling it from the VC++ client.
Can someone please help out?
Cheers,
Eagle

Thanks a lot Amit,
Shall I write the following command in the command prompt after reaching the project's folder?
csc /target:library /out:ECSLink.dll ECSLink.cs
tlbexp ECSLink.dll /verbose
I set the "register for COM Interoperability" to "true",won't that eliminate the need to write the above commands?
Another thing is that I get an error message when trying to run these commands from the command prompt telling me that they are an unidentified internal or external commands?
Any idea why?Is there something wrong with my installation?
Shall I place both the C# COM Server and C++ Client in the same folder?
Thanks again Amit,
Eagle

definately you can write the commad using .net command prompt which is available at
Programs->Visual Stdio.net 2003->Visual Stdio.Net Tools->Visual Stdio Commad Prompt
running command from from .net command promplt resolve ur problem " Undentified internal or external commands"
i am not sure but i think it would eliminate the need to write the command. if you set " Register for Com Interoperability" to true.

Thanks a million Amit,
But what about the command that is used for building the cpp file.
"cl filename.cpp"
What will I use in this case since it's a VC++ 6.0 file?
All the Best ,
Eagle
