Probably just a very informal way of saying use a data reader - but I'm surprised they don't show you what they mean.
Unfortunately, I cannot help with binding the data to the data grid - I didn't like them in .NET 1.1 (I felt they promoted poor coding practices by too tightly coupling the data layer to the GUI layer). They are much improved in .NET 2.0 but I haven't had a chance to look at them.

I want to get the system contextmenu of any type files when i right click this type file in listview control in vb.net,the effect is like you right click the file in Windows folder,but i cann't do that.

hi,
glitch occurs when i try drag that dialog to another when its subform is running. simulation is
1. run the program , click the command buton in form 1
2. click ok button in dialog
3. quickly drag the dialog, u can see the replica of its own image thro' the place whereever u drag until that loop for its subforms runs after that it is normal.
can anybody give ideas to solve this problem.

There is no solution to this problem. Your form2 won't redraw itself until that Fill loop in it is done.

It's a hack, but how about doing the painting phase by phase in response to a timer tick? Yes, the painting would be slower, but the app would be more responsive because the message pump can process some messages between timer ticks.

yes its really matters, actaully i simulated this problem from my project. suggestion senthil kumar is worth, but i want permanent solution so that it can be fast and feasible for massive inputs.

I have a text files xxxyyy.txt which is semi-column delimetted with the first row being the header. How do I create an sql table with the contants of the file.

You could use DTS - It would be the most effective solution. It would also be the quickest to set up.

This is IMO the easiest way.
Open Enterprise Manager and goto your database's "Tables" section
Right-Click in the RHS panel and select All Tasks>Import Data...
Follow the wizard setting "Column Delimiter" and "First Row has Column Names" appropriately

some hints:
You can name the table, or select an existing one on the 3rd from last step
You can save your dts package in SQL Server on the second from last step - it can then be viewed/edited from Data Transformation Services/Local Packages in Enterprise Manager

hi,
i have devlop an windows application in vb.net i want to do authorisation and authentication in software using login form.
i need login_name authentication on main forms menu as well as on others forms.
For examples...Menu Item should be disable when the user name is USER, else should be enable.
how to get login name from loginform to MAIN FORM & OTHER CHILD FORM.

There's no such thing as a "blank" date to the DateTimePicker. The default date is always the current date. If nothing is selected, you'll get todays date. There' is no getting around this, since a value type cannot be Nothing.
