As a vs2005 user, I was unable to load an image even if it is 8bpp grayscale. I checked the code and saw that Pic.PixelFormat.ToString() is generating "PixelFormat8bpp" and of course not equal to the code given. First I changed that by adding Imaging.Drawin lib.
Than after getting exceptions about size, I realized that column(width;x)- row (height;y) is totally messed up. But while exploring the code i came up with an array with the size [300,300] and i got it; you have to use an image with 300x300 pixel size, no more no less. ok may be less would be also ok, but it s clear that it must be a square sized!
After that you can work on images, but the algorithms are very slow even for 300x300.

I am really impressed with the clarity of the code! You make it look so simple
I am using VC# 2005 (express). It seems like all row and column arguments are mixed-up.
This results in exceptions being thrown whenever the column argument in a for-loop gets bigger than the number of rows. Any one else have this problem too?

Hi. I'm working on Image Precessing, i have to craete Signature Vrification System and I'd like to write in C#. My work is similiar to yours so we can to cooperate. I think that your library could help me a lot and in the future I can help to expand your library. I have some probelms with downloading file from web site. Could U send me this on my email ?? labelthc@o2.pl I hope that we will be in touch.

Hallo Kishor Aher,
I current do a project about fingerprint recognition. I see that you have some experience about that. I do enhancement,segmentation, binarization, extraction, and now matching. It looks like some of them did not work as I expect, especially about matching and enhancement. I hope you can give advices. My contact is via email : tlvphong@hotmail.com. I'm looking forward to hearing from you very soon.
Thanks in advance,
Phong Tran

Hi All, My name is James and I am doing a Biometrics based Project.
the Project I am doing is a Fingerprint
Recognition, At this moment I am working on the research side of Biometrics.
For the time being I have a Fingerprint Recognition scanner and have just installed Visual Studio.NET software, I expect to use Visual C# for my application, I
hope to integrate it with a Biometric SDK I hope to use SQL Server for the database to store Fingerprint Images or Data.
Fot the implementation I am a bit stuck or unclear about the whole thing. I was wondering if any one could guide me in the right lines or give me an idea of doing this Project in a different way.
regards
James

Hi all,
Currently, I'm working on a project on "Fingerprint Recognition System". There's a third party dll containing a method:
compareImage(char* scanned, int sHeight, int sWidth, char* database, int dHeight, dWidth)
The first arugment that the method takes in is a char*(char array) of the pixel data of the bitmap object(fingerprint image). I am aware that a bitmap object consisits of 4 parts: the BITMAPHeader, BITMAPINFO, color platete table and the pixel data. Anyone have any idea on how to extract only the pixel data from the bitmap object?
Hope anyone out there could help. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I was trying to do image processing of 16 bits grey scale images. The bitmap can only handle 8 bits. How can I access the pixel data safely or unsafely from the Image object?
Many thanks,

This may not be relevent to what as u have not given details of ur problem but check this convertion in order to convert any RGB image to grey scale u have a very simple solution as follow
step1 : take the RGB values seperatly for a pixel
step2 : Know take any of this value from RGB and assign it to other 2.
Like suppose R = 150 then R=G=B = 150
step3 : apply this new value to the pixel and the whole image turns Grey Scale

This won't likely give you the results you want. You'll end up with a grayscale image for sure - but it will only reflect the intensity of a single color channel. Areas of your picture that are heavily r, g, or b will be under-represented in the final image. For example - if you had a heavily blue image but chose to use the r channel for your conversion then you'd end up with a very black picture.
Better to average the channels or use the highest of the three - or some other sensible scheme.

The correct formula for getting a grayscale image of R,G,B values is to calculate the "distance" of the colors like:
GrayValue = Math.Sqrt((R*R+G*G+B*B)/3);
Then assign
R = GrayValue
G = GrayValue
B = GrayValue
Enjoy,

Since the eye isn't equally sensitive to red, green and blue, it is not a simple matter of an average or distance calculation.
The correct balance is:
GrayValue = 0.299*red + 0.587*green + 0.114*blue;

The eye perceives color channels differently. To convert RGB to grayscale, use
Gray = Red * 0.299 + Green * 0.587 + Blue * 0.114
