When I run my application, and type letter “a” (letters), I need to type a Unicode character(s) instead of letter “a”(in word pad or any word processing application). I have seen applications like that, but I have no idea how to do that
Do you have any ideas?

Wonder if any of you guys could point me in the right direction? Everywhere I've searched on Google always shows me how to do this with a datagrid - but not a form - and it just doesn't seem to want to work how I want it work.
I've created a form which correctly displays all my fields in a recordset. I can scroll through them, add new records, delete records, etc. etc. and everything is fine.
I now want to add a Search field to the form so that when the user enters a search string, it automatically searches through the dataset for EITHER the CompanyName OR the CompanyID - and refreshes the display to display the appropriate search result (ie. populates the currently open form with the appropriate record).

I partly figured it out - but can't get it to work with an OR part of the SQL. Any advice would be appreciated. The CompanyID is an Autonumber field.

Are you trying to do a like on the auto number field?
"SELECT * FROM tblCustomersParent WHERE CustomerName Like '%" & txtSearchString.Text & "%' or CompanyID = " & txtCompanyName
You should really look at using parameterized queries as well.

Hi - yes, the query was pretty much like you've suggested. I had tried:
"Select * From tblCustomersParent Where CompanyName Like '%" & txtSearchString.Text & "%'" & _<br />
" or CompanyID Like '%" & txtSearchString.Text & "%'"
and then...
"Select * From tblCustomersParent Where CompanyName Like '%" & txtSearchString.Text & "%'" & _<br />
" or CompanyID Like " & txtSearchString.Text
... and ended up just commenting out the OR bit 
What do you mean when you say, "parameterized queries"? Could you show me an example?

I haven't worked with MS Access in a while, so I'm not sure how they do it. The easiest way to do this is to cycle through the rows until you find what you need.
Dim row As DataGridViewRow
For Each row In DataGridView1.Rows
If row.Cells(0).Value.ToString = TextBox1.Text Then
DataGridView1.CurrentCell = row.Cells(0)
Exit For
End If
Next
The 0 in the cells parameters should match whatever column you want it in.

DataGridView is the .Net 2005 version of the DataGrid (2003). You should be able to use the same type of logic to find values in the datagrid.

I need a program which will read the local machine users and group membership and export this information to either a tab delimited file or an xml file.
Any help appreciated, I can get the active directory users and groups easilly, but am stumped on how to get it from the local machine. FYI I got handed this for a security audit and don't want to have to go to each computer to get it.

Well, if you want to do it completely "behind the scenes" you'll need to get the command line add-in.

Once you have that installed, you can create a string for the additional parameters and pass it to a shell command

As long as you have rights to the directory on the remote domain you can write to it. The only difference is that when you connect, you have to use a username that is recognized on the remote domain. You'll also need to use the full username: Domain\Username

When the packet comes using the socket stream I only get part of it using Encoding Ascii get bytes. the second issue I need to read through the message and respond with a similar message. How do I maintain the Encoding if I do get it right

Checkout the System.Text.Encoding namespace. It can convert the stream to and from various encoding.

I'm using VB.Net 1.1 and have a data-bound Combobox on the first page of a TabControl. When the Combobox is populated I set the default index to -1 so that no item is selected. However, when a navigate between pages of the TabControl I find that the first item in the Combobox has been selected automatically even though there is no code behind the TabControl itself.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to prevent it?
