I've heard just to avoid frames in general, but don't know the details. My experience is that every site I've visited that used frames sucked real bad. I'm sure you can find something on google or CP about why it is bad to use frames.

There is some problem ~
when i just add the include for footer which lower botom my content page still remain in dreamweaver design but when i add another include for the header, i only see my header in the dreamweaer design layout??? wat happen? but when i test it the full page is coming out nice.... ??? have u use dreamweaver to create asp site????
my company old site was used front page to create... but now i using dreamweaver will it effect the layout? cause i having problem when edit the old page...

I've never used Dreamweaver, so can't help you. I hand code everything, which may seem stupid, but it produces nice readable, updatable html.
I've looked at some Dreamweaver files, and it made me want to turn my stomach inside out and wash it with chlorine. What I saw was a lot of absolute positioned DIVs, and if you try to modify the html, everything was broken.

i having problem showing the header and footer... at first i try use in dreamweaver i press F12 the header and footer come out correctly, but when i type the addess to show the index.asp the header and footer was not there??~?~?~ wat happen? even my other page also didnt show up. i had already put the include code there..???????

Unfortunately we have to post variables from another page, i doubt if it will then be possible.
The variables that we receive is not part of the form that does the posting, it is to indicate witch category must be loaded in the main frame.

Hello,
I developped an application using some ajax that does several common Active Directory tasks like creating a user, deleting one, ...
One of these is to move a user's home directory from one server to another. And here comes my "problem".
My application calls an asp page that create an ActiveX dll which will do all the copying of the files.
Problem is this may takes hours depending on the amount of datas and the speed of the lines between servers and therefore the user ( well the network admins ) doesn't get to see anything of the progress.
What would you do to show some progress ? I must use an ActiveX dll (for authentification reasons) to do the moving other than that I think I'm pretty free to do what I want.
I already tried to go multithread on my ActiveX but since VB6 doesn't handle multithreading at all, it was a no-go.
Any idea / suggestion are more than welcome.

Um...is there a good reason why you can't use the Progress bar control?
(Oh and VB does do multithreading - but only apartment threaded)

How would you use the progress bar control on an asp page ??

Create the ActiveX with the progress bar as its UI, then just use as per any other ActiveX control in a webpage (Google for the <object> tag)
You won't be able to drop the PB directly on the page, but if you code up the ActiveX to have it as its interface, then it just gets displayed - I've used this technique many times before, and pretty bulletproof

If Richard's suggestion doesn’t meet your needs you can always go the extremely simple route and at the start of file coping display some type of animated GIF, one like oh the file copy GIF. Hide it when the coping is done.
I have done something very similar with a thick client and the users where happy to see the app busy churning away on their work…

Unfortunately I haven't had time yet to test Richard's suggestion. Since this is something I never did before, it'll require a bit more time than what I'm used to to try it.
As for solution, I'm already using it. I've put an animated clock when the work is being done. But what I really need is an ETA.
Worst case scenario, I 'll compute the approximative time to process the files and display it. But I'm rather confident on Richard's idea.
As soon as I work again on it, I'll post the progress / solution I'll be using.

Part way down there is the standard windows file copy avi. nothing like giving your users the same thing that windows does.

Nothing like giving the user a realistic time line. The reason I would go the other way is it can be difficult to calculate how long it will take to transfer files over the network, bandwidth has a tendency of disappearing. That is unless you just count the number of files and set the progress bar to that figure and count up to the total.

I have a table row structured like this (mind the XSL variable):
and I have been using JavaScript like:

This works perfectly fine in Internet Explorer. But in Mozilla Firefox I get:
tr.childNodes[0].childNodes[0] has no properties
Somehow childNodes, obj.parentElement, etc are not working anymore in Mozilla Firefox. Is
the DOM tree syntax totally different between IE and FF?

If you use the standard syntax and not IE specific features (as you have in that code), they work the same.
The difference is what nodes the document is parsed into. The nodes in the document tree is not only the html elements, but also every piece of plain text between the elements is a node.
In Firefox, the first child node of the td element is not the input element. You just have to go through the elements until you find an element node.
You can use the nodeType property to find out the type of the node. The value is 1 for elements and 3 for text nodes.

In Firefox, the #text node is considered as a child node, and that's probably what you got when accessing tr.childNodes[0]. So yes, the DOM tree syntax are different.
I believe that a row node has a specific property to access its td collection named cells. Try that one instead. Hope that helps

Hi, I'm beginner to .NET...
I'm trying to access an Oracle Database using a ASP.Net webservice with C#.... I'm using VS.NET 2005 and Oracele 10g...
Created an System DSN using the Oracle ODBC driver
I tried using an OdbcConnection
String constr = String.Format("DSN={0};UID={1};PWD={2};", "TEST", "user", "passwd");
con = new OdbcConnection(constr);
con.open();
This code works fine with a C# client program, but when I tried it with the webservice I get the following error...
Error[IM003] Specified driver could not be loaded due to sytem error 5(Oracle in OraClient10g_home1)
ny ideas? Am I missing something...?? Plz help if possible...

Are you running the DB, webservice and client app on the same pc?
Have you tried using OracleClient instead om ODBC?

im designing a webform,
i have a Table named Table1 with 3 columns, Headers >> "Col1" "Col2" "Col3"
i added text boxes in a new row using >> cell1.Controls.Add(newtextbox),
so now the table has the Headers and a new row with text boxes to collect info from a user
i want i add an unknown amount of rows with text boxes
Question: how do i retrieve the data from the text boxes after it has been entered (this data is to be saved to a database after collection)
NOTE: i tried >> Table1.Rows(1).Cells(1).Controls.?
also thought about using an arraylist
any help will be appreciated thanks in advance.

Hello,
While it is true that every server on the internet needs to have an IP address, do servers necessarily need to have canonical names?
What I mean is, is it possible to have a server that simply does not have a human-readable text name, but is only reachable through its IP address?

Of course - in fact, if you ping www.google.com, you can find its IP, then use that to get there...
The problem arises if a server has a dynamic IP (unlikely for a server)
