I have a very small network at home consisting of a desktop, which also acts as an ICS gateway, and a laptop. Both systems are running WinXP Pro. Infact, I have just installed it on my laptop and notice that it's constantly communicating with my desktop PC using TCP port 2869 (ICSLAP). Is this normal? Can I stop it doing this? It's a little annoying since my HD is being accessed during this. So far, the only way to stop it is to disable my network adapter when I don't need LAN or Net access. Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers,
Free

Just wondering if anybody had any C++ code or Perl Script that emulates the wget program [linux]. I've read your C# artical on this Nish.. very interesting
You or anyone else have any C++ [for a linux system] or PERL that would do the same.

Why would you want a wget emulator when you can compile your own wget.exe?
D/I it from
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/wget/wget-1.7.tar.gz
and compile it. Maybe you need to tweak the makefile to use "del" instead of "rm", but IIRC it compiled right out of the box.

Hi ,
I need to do data mirror:
when there are some changes to protected files then just backup the changed part to the same name file under another folder. so I need a kernal driver filter.
But if there are new file created in the protected folder. i need to create a same name file under the other folder too, but how can i create a new fileobject in the driver routine?
Thanks in advance!

Look at ZwCreateFile or NtCreateFile in the DDK - this is essentially what the CreateFile routine in the windows subsystem maps to.

What is a good antivirus software for Windows 2000 Server. I just installed Win 2K Server at home (Came with Visual Studio .Net) and am having a nightmare dealing with Nimda and codered type viruses (I finally downloaded and installed all the latest patches from MS) . My McAfee software which I used on Win 98 says it works on all windows platforms except 2000 Server.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ranjan

I use the corporate edition at work, but I'm sure the Home Edition works perfectly well.

Apparently not. I just spoke to Symantec. For Win 2000 Server I have to get their enterprise version. I tried to explain that I was using it at home on a single PC and am a developer and need it only for experimental development and so on and so forth. But Symantec would not budge and said if I have Win 2000 Server I must buy a corporate licence and that they can offer no discounts to single at home non business users. Jerks!!!!
Thanks

I am pretty sure that the latest version of Norton should work.

You know, showing up in a Microsoft oriented forum asking for Linux programming tips reminds me of that scene from "Attack of the Killer Tomatos" where a guy went undercover as a tomato but eventually blew his cover when he asked for ketchup at dinner...
Seriously, though, you might try poking around at www.slashdot.org.
