Have you looked around on this site?

Thank you for replying Paul. Yes, I did look on the site and was able to find two source codes dealing with WinSocks in .Net. Also, I already have a chat client source code. However, since I don't know much about sockets, it is hard to understand them just like that. The ones I downloaded from here also contain some Assembly code which I have no idea about.

Thanks for replying. Could you also recommend me a good book for sockets with VB.Net?

I haven't read any books on sockets, but you might try doing a search on the topic on Amazon's website.

Here is the basic layout. Inside of a group box, I have a textbox. Outside of the groupbox, I have a command button. On load, the command button has focus. I have tinkered with the tab index to put focus on the textbox when the form loads, but to no avail. The only answer I have now is to disable the command button until I have text in the textbox, but I don't know if that will put focus on the textbox initially.
Ideas?!
Thanks in advance.

Not sure, but here is what I'd do. When you are designing the layout of your form, go to the file menu and select View - Tab Order. This makes these little blue boxes with numbers appear next to each control. The numbers show the tab order...but when you have a group box, you have sort of like sub tab orders. So you need to first let the designer know that the Groupbox is the first item to have focus, then the textbox, then the command button. To do this, click on each of the controls in that order (watch the numbers change as you do it). Then from the file menu select View - Tab Order again to shut off the tab order view. If you mess up, just shut off the tab order view and then start it up again.

I have an Excel worksheet, where I included a query (using Get External Data function) this query is an Access query that obtains data from an Oracle DB, I made a VB program and as soon as I refresh the query it asking me for the Oracle user and password (that is fine) , My question is... is there a way to suppress the user-password requirement durin the refresh (or how can I mix the connection strings access and oracle to add the UID/PWD from oracle in it)?
Kind Regards.

Why not make life simpler by having your VB program run the query against Oracle? Sounds like you have alot of interaction between too many different programs

In Visual Studio 2003 or 2005, the tab control has a property called Right To Left that you can set. I don't know about VB6

I am trying to refresh myself in VB and we just upgraded to .NET 2005. Previously in VB if you had a true boolean it converted it to a 1 when passed to other languages. Is this still true?
Is there a good reference site/article that highlights new changes for VB2005?
Thanks!

try this[^]. it's a series of articles comparing differences between VB6 and .NET. It's for .NET Framework 1.1 tho... hope it points you in the right direction.

As said those are not built into the framework. But why not use the search function on CP?
drive combobox[^]
folder tree[^]
file listbox[^]
explorer treeview[^]
Look through the results. There are so many examples on it - at least one of them should fit your needs.

This is not right, you can still use these controls:
(1) Right click on the toolbox and select choose items
(2)Scroll down to the letter "d" area in the ".net framework components" tab and find those controls you ar searching for.
(3) Tick the check boxes beside the controls and click ok.
You could populate the list manually but this is time consuming and unnecessary if the controls are already available.

In the panel i will be having label control. i have been able to expose the all the required properties of the label, but i was not able to expose the click event of the label. As on the click event of the label i have to perform some other action which will be related to other controls in the form. Forum guys can suggest me how to expose the click event of the label control.

I have written a small program with VB.NET 2005 and wish to run it from a networked drive.
It works ok locally but I get a security error when running from a network drive.
On .NET Framework 1.1 I simply adjusted the Runtime Security Policy in the .NET Configuration utility
So how do I assign rights to a .NET v2 assembly?
Thanks
