I don't agree. Too many message forums will lead to many cross forum postings.
It is very rare that a question posted goes beyond the first couple of pages on the day it is posted. If the question isn't answered in a day then it is likely that nobody here has an answer.

You're correct. A better solution would be to modify the forum software to contain predefined categories within forums that the reader could then select via a combobox.

I think an article having a grand total of 4.89/5 from 84 users,
is more popular than on having 5/5 from 6 users.
Why not taking the # of voters in to account also? (84 * 4.89 > 6 * 5)
Were talking about "popular" aren't we?

My formula is wrong:
If 100 voters give an article a 1 that means it's a bad article.
And surely not better/more popular than one getting a 4 of 10 users.
But, my suggestion isn't wrong:
Somewhere there must be a formula to express that
4.89/5 from 84 voters is more popular that 5/5 from a couple of voters.
Anyone a suggestion?
(Because I think that's what you need to implement it, isn't it Chris?)

Many people have thier own methods of rating articles. Some of them seem well done but have a very low score. Trying to modify the current formula doesnt seem worth it imho. Especially when people are voting a 1 on certain articles just to bump thier own in the grand scheme of things.
Just my 2 cp and a cup of mojo.

Unfortunately, using the # responses to weight the rating only works when you have 2 articles of the same rating. But I agree that an article that's been rated 5 by a just a few users is unlikely to be more popular than one rated less than 5 by many more users.

Although the lounge is a great place, is it possible to add a link to it in the discussion boards page, and also at the top of any other board your viewing in the same format as ther others, like
The Lounge (136000/3), showing how many new posts there are?
This would bring this one board in line with all the rest and make CP have a more consistent user interface across the board(s).

This won't quite meet your needs, but what i've done is added this link to my links toolbar. This way at least i see post counts for the other forums while in the lounge.

Thanks for the new feature Chris, where the forum sorts itself in such a manner, so that the post you reply to is shown on screen. This is such a brilliantly beautiful feature for threads with more than 25 posts. Now we go straight to the post in question. Good idea and excellently executed. I know this is the "Suggestions" forum, but I had to post it here as I didn't find a "Thank You" forum anywhere

We'd also need a disclaimer on top saying that only managed questions will be entertained. We don't want someone coming and asking about MFC or ATL or WTL. Only Managed .NET based C++ questions

Actually I think questions about how to interact MFC with .NET would be viable, but would probably become FAQ soon enough.
