There are four ways to maintain state in ASP.net.
Querystring (pass values in web address).
Session
Cookies
Cache
For more info check you help file or msdn.

View state is for one page. The original poster was asking for a way pass information from one page to another.

OK, don't want to argue But you've been talking about mantaining state... That's not important anyway, for example I use ProfileProvider wherever possible... I just wanted to point there are more state managing mechanisms than 4 mentioned by you. No offense mate!

hi,
i want to access session variable value stored at server side and display it in a text box(of server control) using java script. i want to access session variables using javascript in html code of webpage.
i need a detail and code format/steps to do this task
pls look out this..
krish..
|
|
|
|
|
Here ya go. Here is the C#.
this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterHiddenField("MySessionField", "MySessionValue");
this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Page.GetType(), "key", "alert(document.getElementById('MySessionField').value);");
|
|
|
|
|
You can not access session variables from Javascript. The Javascript runs in the browser, and the session variables are on the server.
If you want to use the value from a session variable in the Javascript, you have to write code that uses the value from the session variable to create Javascript code that recreates the value in the browser.
Example:
Session["asdf"] = 42;<br />
<br />
Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "SessionAsdfDeclaration", "var asdf = " + Session["asdf"].ToString(), true);

b { font-weight: normal; }

I want a custom menu for my ASP.NET page. I have several sections and several users. Each user can only access the section he is responsible for. So I want the menu show only the sections the user has access to.
How do I create a menu like this in ASP.NET? Do I have to write a custom control, or is there a simpler solution? I don't want a static menu! According to the user logged in, menu entries should disappear completely (the entries he has got no access).
From a PHP point of view I simply would access the database everytime the page is loaded and generate HTML code according to the user logged in. The ASP.NET equivalent would be a custom control with a custom Render() function, wouldn't it? Is there a simpler way, and if not, how do I create this control? I'm sure some of you has a solution to my problem.
Thanks in advance,
Simon Parzer

Don't waste time patching your paper bucket - get a plastic one.

It is very easy to do with a tree view control. Go Here for more information.

So for every user login I would create a data source for the user's "customized" menu and assign that data source to my tree view? That would really be very easy.
Thanks for your advice.

Hi,
I am using Visual Studio .NET 2003 on my workstation, say PC01
The IIS runs on a different workstation on our LAN, say PC02.
(SQL Server is there too, on the same machine)
And our document root is on yet another workstation, say PC03
on the LAN.
It is mapped as a virtual directory in IIS on PC02.
I have full access to all the workstations. How do I create
an C# ASP.NET webproject in Visual Studio, on the server?
Presently it is not allowing me to work with a remote IIS server,
but Dreamweaver has this facility of remote development.
Is there a way to achieve this?
ASP - AJAX is SEXY. PERIOD.

|

Perhaps you have to add on the IIS server system PC02's Users Account to
you log-in details such as ASPNET, ACTUser, VUSR_<sysname pc02=""> and groups of Debugger Users, VS Developers.
I hope this may rectify your problem.
