Actually suggestion #2 has very little to do with the emoticons. Suggestion #1 was really just something that occured to me while working on suggestion #2. I do have a #3 that occured to me last night while I was sleeping on suggestion #2. Hmm, this is getting confusing... maybe I should start using code names. 
I talked to nish last night before I went home and he had a couple of ideas about the primary suggestion I am working on. This got me thinking about things and I came up with a couple of additions. I am going to finish nish's suggestions and the new ideas before I post it. I'll get it up sometime today.

I would be happy to have the help, but Suggestion #5 seems to have slipped into a space/time warp and caused a transporter malfunction. Consequently it seems to have ceased to have ever existed.
You could make comments on my main suggestion above though!

Ok Chris, I still have one bug to kill and I have some ideas to make it more cross browser compatible so I am going to wait until later on today or maybe this weekend to post the suggestion I am working on.

I was so excited by this I almost ruptured my spleen!
Then I noticed that it costs money. Ah well, it is certainly worth it. Very nice widget. I just have NO budget for the things I wanted a spell check for. (Personal projects and all that)
Nice find though Nick. I am going to keep it in mind for when I have a budget for something I am working on.

Looks good, but I wonder how much load it places on the site? We can't use Java applets so a server side spell with Javascript interface probably uses callbacks or something. I'm not sure if having perfectly spelled forum posts is really worth the hassle. It kind of takes the flavour and sponteneity out of posting.
(Besides, if I have another spell checker tell me 'flavour' is spelled incorrectly I'm gonna heave it out the window)

I've got nothing against Java (apart from the fact that it's slower than a sloth on valium) - it's just after Sun and Microsoft had their little hissy fight Java is no longer something that can be relied upon to be present.
But I guess we should be glad that thay have these fights for the good of all consumers.

Attempting to searh code project keeps giving me an error page (below).
I'm attempting to search for 'base 2' (as I want to know how to express a number in binary rather than base 10 or hex).

Chris, I wasn't going to say anything because it souded like others were having the same problems and you were working on it but I am not getting ANY notifications.
I have been trying to live with it, but it is starting to drive me absolutely batty. 
I have not gotten a single notification in about two weeks, (not exactly sure of the time span just guessing here). I get the newsletter Ok, just not any notifications.
I am using the e-mail adress all the time, so I know my end is working.
Sorry to be a pest, but I have trouble keeping up without my notifications. Threads get buried so fast.

Actually I do have several in the works, but I have had even less luck getting anything done on them than I have had getting anything done with the several programming projects I have on the back burner.

hi chris,
First of all visual c++ is so vast.Then,users have so many questions and doubts that others with similar ones cannot find them easily.
So ,I suggest(like my hard disk) organise visual c++ into API and MFC
In MFC, make activex,com,controls,internet etc.
In controls,make buttons,trees etc.
This will greatly help the new visitors and also regulars like me.
***May be even C++ and visual C++ and then the rest as above***

When you quote somebody else's text the emoticons don't appear. Which, I presume is to do with the fact that html tags aren't quoted, hence removing the [img] tag from the message. Would it be possible to put in a little bit of code to look out for the [img] tags and replace with the correct text when quoting... It's just a little thing.
