OK - VB6 is crap to start with. There are probably some commercial grids, but I thought people mostly used the flexgrid.

Hi.
I read on microsoft comparison chart that VB express 2005 does not support remote databases which im guessing is that same as shared network database.
is there no other way , perhaps a 3rd party app that can allow this.
Please let me know so i can consider upgrading if need be.

I suspect this means you can't connect to a remote DB within the IDE, I'm sure the end code can run a DB from anywhere.

Hi Christian
I guess without confusing myself, Im wanting to find out if im able to setup a shared network database. so basically i want to create a multiuser app using a centralised MDB Database where multiple users can read and write to the same database.
can you please confirm if this can be done in VB EXPRESS 2005.
Many thanks
Robbo

Yes, you can. Like Christian said, the code you write can interact with the database without any problem. It's just htat the Express Editions of Visual Studio don't supply and Designers that will write any database code for you.

I use MS SQL Express 2005 for a Weighbridge application I have written and access the database from other computers on the network, including PC access over a WAN connection.
You should be aware that SQL Express, when installed, is configured as a stand-a-lone database, i.e. does not allow remote connections. You will need to change this within the SQL Server Configuration Manager program.

You can unplug the keyboard cable, or don't press the prinscreen button. Ha ha that's a joke.
Actually, you can handle it by add some action like showing a message when user press it and delete the image file from picture taken, by this:
Private Sub formname_keydown(Byval sender as object, byval e as system.keycode)<br />
If e.keycode=key.printscreen = true then<br />
msgbox("Sorry, you can't print the screen for a reason","Warning",vbcritical)<br />
system.clipboard.clear<br />
End If<br />
End Sub

Hi All
I am writing am app that I can call from the windows services recovery tab that emails me when the service fails.
At present I have a written a service that has a counter that has a 10 second delay that throws an exception.
But on testing the service it counts 10 ten sec's and crashes but never launches the test app from the service recovery tab (Notepad).
Is the unhandled exception the same as a service failing?
How do I write an app that crashes for testing?
IDEAS....
P.S. What is even more annoying is that if I was writing a service it would have heaps of errors to debug and now the apposite
Thanks

Take a look at dainel's article on exceptions:
Exception Best Practices[^]
It has a lot of good informaiton regarding general exception handling. Also a service should deal with the errors raised from within. In the case where an error is unhandled the domain error handler will attempt to catch it. You may wish to install a error handler in the System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException
Event. This can of course call your:

The article was interesting from a error handling point of view.
I was looking for the opposite, I need a service to fail the triggers the service recovery option and let's me run a program.
Thanks

Will your requirements allow you to start recovery process from within the service? Or does it have to be in a differnt app domain?

You will need to parse out the price range from the data you get.

Thanks for the reply. can you give me the example.

You take a look at the complete data, see if you always will find the words "Price range:" in all of such pages that you want to view, and pick up the data from after the position of the string "Price range:".
You will need to look up functions to search for a substring with in a string and another for extracting a substring from another string.

thanks again for the reply.
if you kindly give me some code example for button click, so i can try with that. otherwise i am not able to do that.
thanks in advance

I will have to suggest that you try writing the code on your own - I have already pointed out the functions you will need to use. If you still have problems with the code, post what you tried out here and I will try to help you.

Hi,
I would like to know how I can Add an Add-In (eg: a customized spell checker) to MSWord and PowerPoint.
Is there anyway we can make sure it works with all existing versions?
Thanks
