Don't get me wrong, but to me you are as responsible for the totally off-topic sub-thread as that other guy. Instead of taking your arguments with him offline, you persisted in abusing the VC++ board.

The five vote given to you by someone suggests that there are others too who think I have a mistake in my part. In that case, please accept my apologies. My intention was really not to abuse the board, but I wanted to correct him, in which I failed miserably. I usually don't get into such arguments, but this is it.
Shog on learning VB6: Ah, that would have been VB6. Kicked my ass anyway.

Hey, please don't apologize to me - I just expressed my opinion.

Yes, your good intentions were clear. It's just that you got frustrated after a while and from then on, the rest of the thread served to help nobody. It was just an exercise in wasting time and possibly bandwidth

Have the rules for the monthly competition changed? This time, updated articles have also been included - which means many of the entries in the competition are 2-3 years old.
I think the old format was better where only new articles submitted in that specific month are included in the voting.

Thank you. That was a quick response
I hope you reset the votes too, so people can vote again.

New infrastructure + insufficient caffeine = bug.
My fault guys - sorry about that. Everything's been reset to 0 and new voting forms created.
I promise I will drink more coffee today.

You gotta start drinking more Red Bull. A Red Bull should be worth 4-5 coffees.

I had my first Red Bull the other day. I nearly spit it out. I couldn't believe it was supposed to taste that bad. Maybe you're supposed to add something to it before drinking?

I felt the same initially - it's sorta like an acquired taste.

Vodka + Red Bull is getting pretty popular nowadays.

First sip I had, I did the same thing.
Now, I have to force myself never to drink it otherwise I'll guzzle the stuff.. agh..

Yeah, once you get hooked on to it, it's highly addictive

No, the taste is key - how could you possibly sleep with such a taste in your mouth?

i hope you are feeling sleepy for people not calling you by the same.

You're right about that - my first thought was that my friend was playing a trick on me, and had rinsed their underwear in Red Bull before giving it to me.

How about a Homework button that will send a request for homework assistance to RentACoder? Maybe CP could become an RAC affiliate and make some money off these losers.

Or how about a homework button that will send an email to the poster saying "The user xyz thinks your posting looks like a request to do your homework. Please have a look at the forum rules below... ".
I think a 1-voting can be easily ignored, however a few homework emails could be convincing.

I hate to be harsh, Gerry, but this seems a case of reaping what you sow. The discussions on you harvesting the community to recruit new disciples when you first came on the site and your constant and innappropriate references to your work soon after still linger in member's minds.
That's all bygones so please be patient. We're all still getting to know each other here.

Edit: I looked at the original post and your message was way, way above the threshold for being removed. No tweaking on my part would be enough to bring it back.

As much as I often find myself disagreeing with The Grand Nagus I think he does have a point here and feel that the average rating should be taken into account when deciding if something should be deleted. It's happened more often in the soapbox but I've seen it abused before in fairly heated arguments where the score was sitting around 2.5 (half 1s and 5s I assume) and the post was then killed because of a few abuse clicks. Personally I think either a total disablement or a much higher count of delete votes should be needed for a post with a score above 2.

You have to explain to them [VB coders] what you mean by "typed". their first response is likely to be something like, "Of course my code is typed. Do you think i magically project it onto the screen with the power of my mind?" --- John Simmons / outlaw programmer

Yes, you (and Gerry) are right: the "Mark as Abuse" does need tweaking.

And examples like this[^] don't help. This is clearly spam, yet someone marked it up. Well, I could be kind and say they probably went for "spam" and hit the 5 instead of the "m" of "spam".

Yet another reason for CPHog , voting can be done through Alt+(1-5), no mistakes there.

I don't think there is any one solution that will solve the problem. Perhaps it could be lengthened to more votes as you said, but abuse can be done on any system. A spammer can create another ID to vote his own spam to prevent or slow removal, even forcing by-hand removal if there is a minimum score. No matter how you set it up, it can be abused.
Off hand I would say make more votes, but not to the extent it takes a huge effort of logic. We'll just be back here again with more requests for changes Ad Infinitum. That doesn't mean it isn't worth the effort, just not a major one. Tweak it, but no more.
