The voting system is there for a reason. If someone votes your post a 1, it usually means he disagrees with what you posted. I don't see why you expect everyone who votes on your posts to have to explain why they disagree.

Naw. It's a frickin' threaded web-based forum system. You click, you type, you preview, you type some more, when it looks right you post. People who can't figure that out aren't gonna do well with their coding either. What, really, do we have to gain by babying other programmers?

My intention was really not to abuse the board, but I wanted to correct him, in which I failed miserably. I usually don't get into such arguments, but this is it.

Yes, your good intentions were clear. It's just that you got frustrated after a while and from then on, the rest of the thread served to help nobody. It was just an exercise in wasting time and possibly bandwidth

Have the rules for the monthly competition changed? This time, updated articles have also been included - which means many of the entries in the competition are 2-3 years old.
I think the old format was better where only new articles submitted in that specific month are included in the voting.

I think a 1-voting can be easily ignored, however a few homework emails could be convincing.

I hate to be harsh, Gerry, but this seems a case of reaping what you sow. The discussions on you harvesting the community to recruit new disciples when you first came on the site and your constant and innappropriate references to your work soon after still linger in member's minds.
That's all bygones so please be patient. We're all still getting to know each other here.

As much as I often find myself disagreeing with The Grand Nagus I think he does have a point here and feel that the average rating should be taken into account when deciding if something should be deleted. It's happened more often in the soapbox but I've seen it abused before in fairly heated arguments where the score was sitting around 2.5 (half 1s and 5s I assume) and the post was then killed because of a few abuse clicks. Personally I think either a total disablement or a much higher count of delete votes should be needed for a post with a score above 2.
