It's going to look up the file association in the registry to figure out what program to open it with, and then pass the path to the file as an argument to that executable.

Does google not work where you live ?
The file extensions are under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, look at it in regedit. Not surprisingly, it's a whole hive, not just a couple of keys, given that they handle every file extension that you can double click on, on your whole computer.

Are you thinking of redirecting that association to a security utility to supply the password support?

You can find everything you need with the System.Environment object.
Trinity: Neo... nobody has ever done this before.

Why are you developing one now ? I assume it's paid work, so why do you insist on relying on free resources ? If you're being paid, your client deserves that you look for the best resources, not the best free ones.
Having said that, your best resource is your client, they are the ones who have to provide you with the business rules they want to see followed. If they just want run of the mill accounting software, they should buy MYOB.

Hi Everyone:
I have created a data entry form that will allow the user to enter in new data. The form has a binding navigator control, a binding source control, four label controls, four text box controls and one command button.
The first objective I’m trying to accomplish is the scenario where the dataset is empty, and I want to add new information to the dataset.
When I open the form the binding navigator control’s move first, move previous, move next and move last buttons are disabled. Since the dataset is empty this is an expected result. The only enabled buttons on the binding navigator control are; Add New, Save to dataset and Update the database.
Now I am going to add a record. I type in the following record into the following text boxes:
Binding ID - blank <this data="" comes="" from="" the="" autoincrement="" of="" dataset="">
Ordinal – 1
Code – TST1
Name – Record 1
I click on the save to dataset button on the binding navigator control and the binding navigator position item on the navigator control says one, as well as the binding navigator count item. In other words it says I have 1 of 1 record in the dataset.
At this time I expect the move first, move previous, move next and move last buttons to be enabled. They still remain disabled.
Okay, maybe the navigation buttons need more than one record in the dataset. So I add this one:
Binding ID - <blank>
Ordinal – 2
Code – TST2
Name – Record 2
I click on the save to dataset button and I now have 1 of 2 records and the move next and move last buttons on the binding navigator control are enabled. If I click on either the Move Last or Move Next button on the Move Previous and Move Last buttons are enabled and the Move Next and Move Last Buttons are disabled.
Okay, now I’m going to check to see if both the records are present in the dataset. So I click on the Move Previous button and I get this:
Binding ID – 1
Ordinal – 2
Code - <blank>
Name - <blank>
If I press the move next button I get this:
Binding ID – 2
Ordinal – 2
Code – TST2
Name – Record 2
I should have both records in the dataset not just the last one. I also think the move next and move last buttons should be enabled when I added the first record into the dataset.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Thanks,
Quecumber256

Lets say I created a new file type and want to assign an Icon to it.
and when I run my software on some one else's computer and create the same file on that computer, the software must automatically assign that Icon to that file type. Is there a way.
(Eg: before installing ms word all .doc files don't have an Icon but after installation all .doc files have an Icon assign to it(is there a way for us to imitate the same function))
I would really appreciate any help
thanx.

Hi,
Perhaps you have found this article by yourself already, but here it is anyway:
http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/VBFileAssociation.asp
Otherwise searching google with this subject will get you loads of info: vb.net file type association
Good luck,
Johan
My advice is free, and you may get what you paid for.

Is there a way to Refresh windows(Right Click on desktop and Click Refresh) using a vb code.
(I heard that you can do it from the regedit.exe; not sure if it's true or not)
Sorry for being extremely specific.

I think that only refreshs your desktop icons. What would you want to do this? I am guessing that you could send a windows message but I am not sure which one.

You posted this to me, when you should have posted it to the original question. I checked your link and it only talks about the registery. It doesn't talk about the original question which is refreshing the desktop.

I am getting the following error (but only sometimes, and not on the computer where I have developed the application)

The problem is that I can't debug the application on the machines that I get the error on. I don't get the error on the machine where vs 2005 is installed.
I am hoping someone can translate this better than I can to help me identify the problem.
Thanks

This is just a wild guess, but it looks like you are doing some sort of splash screen. Did you by chance use a splash screen image that came with vs 2005? I would guess that whatever image you are using may need to be added to your solution.
Hope that helps.

I am using a splash screen based on the template in vs 2005. I have substituted my own image, but there may be a variable in the code that is causing the issue. I will check into this and check for errors, as I played with the code generated by the sample splash screen. The image displays correctly on the splash screen, but it was added as resource and not loaded onto the users computer. The error remains quirky as it does not always occur.
Thanks for the advice.

Hello,
I am using VS 2005.
I have a simple report that displays data that is loaded into a dataset.
I have a field called subject. However, if this field has many characters some of them don't get displayed (cut off).
I have checked by viewing if all the text is contained in the database field in sql server 2005. And yes, all the characters are in there.
I have also checked just before the reports loads by getting the data out of the field, and yes, all characters are there.
So i think it must be something in the report to stop it from displaying the characters.
I have set the property of the field to can grow, is there something else i need to set?
Many thanks for any help,
Steve

hi steve,
i m not sure but try this
i think can grow property increase the height of the fields.so u can increase the width of field at design time so your text is fully displayed. also check font size.
Hope this helps
