Yeah, there are a ton of FPS games (online multiplayer and singleplayer) that are much better than any of the Halo games. I also found nothing in Halo revolutionary, some people mentioned the vehicles, but Tribes had that a long time ago.

I only played the first one. Thought the storyline was ridiculous, an advanced alien species sends an armada of ships to attack earth and instead of letting loose with the ship weapons they send over guys in spacesuits to do the fighting.

If you do not distinguish not liking FPS games from liking FPS games but some beeing repetivive and others not .. whatever, dude.
I like FPS games. Many are not repetitive. Some are more repetitive than others. Halo is very repetitive.

I like FPS and have played tons of them. Never found one that wasn't quickly repetetive. Pick up gun, shoot things. Pick up bigger gun, shoot bigger things. Cut scene. Take elevator ride, shoot more things.
This is a fair description of Halo1/2/3, Half Life1/2, Unreal, Far Cry, Prey, Bio Shock, battlefield, Gears of War(not first person but close enough), Wolfenstien, etc........ The key thing is weather or not you enjoy the action you are repeating.
Humor me, what FPS did you not find repetitive?

No, you humor me. Tell me a game, then, that isn't repetitive. *Any* game, not just a FPS game.
Your generalised description of FPSs fits perfectly into *any* game i have ever seen. With such kind of generalisation, this discussion is pointless.

So you can't name one then. Fine. I like how you can bash one game as repetitive buy have no example of one that you believe isn't.
The Zelda Twilight game kept things fairly fresh. Platformers usually have more variety than run and gun games.
But like i said before if you enjoy the action your repeating then it's not a problem. People who like halo/shooters like to run around and shoot things for hours on end.

Now you are just beeing plain stupid. My conversation with you is over, mr over-generalisation-when-it-suits-you-stop-generalising-when-it-suits-you.
Whatever, see if i care.

What's that crysack? You say your vagina's bleeding and you would rather resort to name calling than defend your own argument? You're a f***ing pussy. How's that? Is that more in line with the kind of argument you like? Don't go throwing your opinion around if you can't handle people calling you out on it.

It's not quite so bad. It's definitely over-hyped, but removing all that hype, they are still decent games.

Many long years ago, I used to play Might & Magic (and Swords of Glass). What are the current first-person RPG's that are similar?
As a dependant question, I haven't had a real game in at least a decade, except my beloved Rogue. My video is whatever comes on the MoBO. How bad will this be?

Oblivion is an excellent 1st person RPG, but the system requirements are pretty hefty so your on board video probably won't suffice.

I think I noticed something (my feeble mind forgets just where) that Oblivion 3 is coming out. If, I were to want to (enter into) Oblivion, I would most likely wish to start with the first of the series.
If correct, do the graphics/system requirements fall down to basic?
I'd rather not invest in graphics card, etc., until I decide I want to pursue some gaming.

Oblivion is Elder Scrolls IV, but the games are nonlinear (just take place in the same world and some references to past games), but you could have trouble finding the first two and a computer that will run them (came out in '94 and '96).

I pre-ordered it a few months ago - it's being shipped to mine as I type. I am wondering if I made a mistake though, I wasn't a huge fan anyway - but recently I completed Bioshock - that game is a bloody opera with guns, its an amazing game. Very deep story line, lots of twists, new takes on the fps genre.... so now I am thinking unless the storymode-online-coop is amazing, I am just going to be dissapointed.
Ahh well.

Got to say I found Halo 1 and Halo 2 disappointing. It lacked visceral impact and played like an arcade shooter. The only time it was fun was with a buddy in split screen and then only because you spend more time laughing your head off than actually playing.
I prefer the solid feeling of Half Life or Quake. Those games have a real heft to them when a shotgun goes off. They also feel more precise. One comment I made to a Halo-fan friend once was "Is this planet on half-gravity?" It felt "floaty", especially when in the vehicles. It reminded me of what I didn't like about Unreal Tournament, that lack of impact.
But hey. Different strokes for different folks.
