There are types of Network Cards that can remotely turn on PC (of course this needs to be supported by the BIOS as well). Technology is called WakeupOnLan. It is based by sending a special packet (MAGIC PACKET) to your NIC and it will turn on the computer. I just changed MZ header and file turned into MS-DOS executable. .EXE files on windows are PE files and therefore should adhere to the standard specified. The partitons look a little like this:- Disk 1 (60GB) ======= c:\ 2GB (used to be Win98) Boot Partition d:\ 30GB (mirrored onto disk 2) e:\ 10GB (Windows 2000 Server System Partition) f:\ 18GB (stuff) Disk 2 (30GB) ======== 30GB mirror of d:\ What I want to do is copy d:\ to a new 60GB disk, use Disk 2 as the system boot partition, and then mirror my new 60GB disk onto the current disk 1. Is is imperitive that the Windows 2000 installation is not corrupted in any way as it runs my entire network. Can anyone give any pointers about the best way to do this? During installation after copying files from the CD-ROM to the hard disk the computer needs a restart. This is normal. What is not normal is that after the restart the installation begins from the very beginning with copying files to the hard disk again. I suspect (but I may be wrong) that the BIOS settings are wrong. I tried CD-ROM and hard disk as first and second boot devices but the same problem persists. Could somebody give me please a pointer? Anyway, at first I thought you might be installing Windows on secondary partition, and some versions of windows need to be installed in primary partition. But AFAIK this is true for Win95/98 only. My suggestion would be: Get a Win95/98 startup disk. Use fdisk utilty to delete all partitions, format them all and try to reinstall Win2k. You might want to try to use "fdisk /mbr" as well which will restore Master Boot Record. Apart from this I have no idea.
