Don't bother with ebooks - just ask us and we'll also send you any code you need to bangtam170685@yahoo.com
Do you find you get lots of spam being sent to bangtam170685@yahoo.com?

Hello,
How do I save data to the current thread. I want it to be accessible only to the current thread.
I need to be able to store data specific to a thread without being able to have control over the object that a thread is executing on. This is because most of the control is handed off to the runtime, so I can't just add it to an object that is created and used to launch my own thread.
I've found a method that looks promising:
System.Threading.Thread.SetData
System.Threading.Thread.GetData
The problem is that it takes a slot as a parameter and I won't be able to use the same slot name across all the calls to set and get data or the data will just get overwritten by other threads.
I want to store authentication information here. So, it needs to be unique for each thread. (In case you are wondering... I can't use the CurrentPrinicple object for my auth.)
Also, the data can be shared across all of the threads with the slots and that is also bad because authentication information shouldn't be shared like that.
Any ideas will be a great help.
Thanks!!!

When you use GetData and SetData, then slot is thread specific. So if I store data on ThreadA to a slot (say "MySlot"), then ThreadB can store different data to a slot by the same name. ThreadB cannot overwrite the data stored by ThreadA.

Thanks much. That seems to work. I was just confused about how SetData and GetData worked apparently.

How to make emboss effect with safe code?
If it is possible please help me
Thanks in advance
Haloha...!!!!

This[^] article from Christian might help. I don't think it's practically possible to do an emboss filter in entirely safe code, but Chris' article demonstrates how to do this with unsafe code.

Hi,
I have to create Pocket PC database file (*.sdf) on my PC. I intended to call several web services to get data and create a 'localDB.sdf' with a program running on my PC. I have created windows application project but I could not add reference to the System.Data.SqlServerCE assembly.
The System.Data.SqlServerCe didn't appear in the .net references tab. I had browsed and added the assembly manually but it didn't work because my framework is 2.0 and the assembly looks for CF 2.0.
How can I use the SqlCeEngine class in a Windows application? Or can I create a *.sdf file using a different class?
thanks,
- ferudun

If everything was installed correctly, the assemblies should have been installed in the GAC and would show up under the .NET tab of the "Add References" dialog. (It's been a while since I've had this installed, but I'm pretty sure that's what will happen.)
The SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition runtime doesn't require the Compact Framework anymore.
Just to be sure, you downloaded from here, right? http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/compact/downloads.mspx[^]

Hi!
You asked the very same question two days ago and didn't get a single answer, probably because no-one understood what you want to achieve.
Try rephrasing and describing in more detail what you want to do.
"application in c# for blocking" - what's that supposed to mean?

Hello all, I'd like to write an IM client like Trillian, but i have no idea how to process login information. Could anyone tell me how to send username and password of user to chat server (like YM chat server)? Thanks
|
|

I don't know of any and usually apps that have username/password logins are a secret kept very close to the chest. Good luck in finding an answer

Sorry but i dont understand your answer clearly. I meant that I'd like to know how IM clients process login information of user like Trillian did. (e.g how to login to YM chat server and retrieve friend list of that user etc...)

What I meant is that it might be a very closely guarded secret that they will not release for the sake of security...

You would need to look for a developer SDK for the Yahoo! Messenger product. I'm not sure if Yahoo! has one or not, but that would be the place to start.

Hey, thanks. Do you know how to get rid of previous templates already there? (Not to get rid of ones put when installed, but a few gathered ones...)

The user templates should be stored under "My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Templates". The ones shipped with VS are stored under "VS Install Dir\Common7\IDE". In the ProjectTemplates, SolutionTemplates, and other folders that end in "Templates".
Take care,
Tom
