I've done some ASP a while back and was wondering what is, in a nutshell, new with ASP .NET? Big difference or just some small design upgrades?
|
|
|
|

big, huge, massive.
asp.net is leaps ahead of not only asp, but every other web framework i've ever seen.
they've wrapped a very innovative webforms framework around the stateless web. It's amazing stuff.

I use System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail fine on a W2K server.

Can anyone give some insight into this exception? I have had several pages that worked just fine then I get this exception, afterward I always get the exception even if IIS is restarted or the asp.net worker process is killed.

I have an aspx page that looks fine of course in IE but when viewed with Netcrape it's like the page margins are always on.
I created a test page with a single image placed at 0,0. Made sure the top and left margins of the page were set to 0. In Netcrape the image is drawn, it looks like, at 10,10, an empty space surrounds the image. If a have a background image set it originates at 0,0. Because the image needs to be aligned with elements in the background it looks like crap.

Netscape doesn't use topmargin and leftmargin like IE. So, to have it render properly in both try this...
<body ... topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">

How can i set my page as the default page of the user when he visits the page

I would not suggest doing that. People will stop visiting your site if you do that without asking.

For IE5+, you can use the home-page behaviour:
<html xmlns:ie>
<head>
<style>
@media all {
ie\:homePage {behavior:url(#default#homepage)}
}
</style>
<script language='javascript' type='text/javascript'>
<--
function fnVerify(){
sQueryHome = oHomePage.isHomePage(oHomeHref.value);
alert(sQueryHome);
event.returnValue = false;
}
function fnGo(){
oHomePage.navigateHomePage();
event.returnValue=false;
}
function fnSet(){
oHomePage.setHomePage(oHomeHref.value);
event.returnValue = false;
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<ie:homePage id='oHomePage' />
<input type='text' id='oHomeHref' value='http://www.codeproject.com' />
<input type='button' value='Verify' onclick='fnVerify();'>
<input type='button' value='Set' onclick="fnSet();'>
<input type='button' value='Navigate' onclick="fnGo();'>
</body>
</html>
[IE will still ask the user if they want to change their home page.]

You need to put a "Default.htm" file in your wwwroot folder. Once you do that, just type in 127.0.0.0 or http://localhost in IE, and you're all set.

Yes but I have to get the webserver to run before that!
When I press that "play" button to start the webserver it allways doing a timeout and don't start!
I've tried to fill in the localhost ip (127.0.0.0) in the IP addres field but it doing a timeout and it doesn't start!! ( ( ( (

open a cmd prompt and type "net start w3svc" and find out what it says. (it will tell you if it started or not)

The localhost ip is 127.0.0.1 not 127.0.0.0.

It tells me that the World Wide Web Publishing could not start and it was a system error (err no. 1747)
Hm.. I don't have Frontpage Server Extension if this has to do with it?

Hello
I am new to scripting but I need to know if there is anyway to
1) Get a list of processes running in Windows 2000
2) Send a notification to mail/pager if the process goes down?
If anyone can give some sample code, that would be very helpful.
Thanks a lot
ashish

I can use the psapi.dll.
Here you can find a article with that function. But if you want you can build a atl dll for get the list of process using that api... (I did that)
