Pocket PC is designed to only have full-screen forms. You cannot create a form that is not full screen.
Windows CE creates top-level (non-popup) windows full-screen. Popup windows can be any size you want. However, the standard for Pocket PC says that you should size your popup dialogs to the full size of the screen using SHInitDialog and calling SHHandleWMActivate and SHHandleWMSettingChange in response to the corresponding messages. Microsoft's development frameworks, first MFC and ATL and now .NET Compact Framework all do this for you. To the best of my recollection, .NET Compact Framework does not offer any way to override this.

Hi,
Mike Dimmick wrote: To the best of my recollection, .NET Compact Framework does not offer any way to override this.
It is possible. The "trick" is to set the FormBorderStyle property to None. For example see my blog entry titled "Creating non full screen forms and custom MessageBoxes" available at http://www.christec.co.nz/blog/archives/134[^].
However having said that it's best described as a hack, and there are some issues with my code sample on different versions of the Windows Mobile OS etc. Since I don't really want to encourage people to develop these kinds of user interfaces I'm not inclined to investigate/resolve these issues...
Hope this helps,

Hey
I have created an application where I have added some controls in panels.
But my problem is that i have two very differnt PDA's. The resolution on number 1 is 320 x 280 and at number 2 it is 640 x 480.
I have found out that when i drag and drop controls with visual studio, it doesnt really matter which of my PDA's i use, The contents just fits the screen.
But at another window i have coded some controls into some panels instead of using the Visual Studio drag and drop things. And now at my PDA number 2, the labels and pictures are too small, because i coded in the sizes which fits to PDA number one.
How can i make sure that all my controls will look the same way at both PDA's just like it does when i use the Drag And Drop tools ind VS?

Currently I`m developing a mobile application and I have a following problem: every time I change the current form, the Windows-strip (the one with the Start button, etc) appears at the very top of my application. It disappears only when I click on my application.
How to get rid of it constantly?

Are you trying to do a full-screen application? If so, are you leveraging the SHFullScreen API?
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa453694.aspx[^]
http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/fullscreen.html[^]
This can get a bit tricky since SHFullScreen doesn't actually hide the start menu and command bar, it just sets them below your window in the Z-order. Therefore, if you show a new window you may have to adjust the z-order again. It's a bit tricky, but hopefully one of those articles above will help.

Hi experts,
I need to download a zip file from server to the PDA and decompress it using asp.net mobile programming. Could any one please tell me how can i do it. Is it possible to do it in :net?
Are there any tools which do this?
Thanking you very much,
Aruna.G

Hello Aruna,
You would need your application to perform the following two functions:
1. Transfer the zip file from the server to the PDA. You may establish an FTP connection to achieve the desired.
2. Perform unzipping for the transferred file.
Are you looking to use any third party components to develop the application for performing the above mentioned functions? Searching over the Google would give the list of vendors.

hi
i try to run my Program on PPC and i get this error:
Can't find PInvoke DLL sqlceme53.dll
what can it be ?
|
|
|
|
|
This generally indicates that you haven't installed the SQL Server Compact Edition runtime. Ensure that the appropriate CAB is installed on the device. You can find the CABs under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices, then under the appropriate CE major version (wce400 or wce500), then the processor type.
Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PCs are based on Windows CE 4.2, so you should use wce400\armv4\sqlce.ppc.wce4.armv4.CAB. For Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6 Pocket PCs, use wce500\armv4i\sqlce.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB.
See also http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlservercompact/archive/2007/10/26/can-t-find-p-invoke-dll-sqlcemenn-dll.aspx[^].
Generally when faced with an error message I normally just put the error message string into a search engine. It would also help you if you noted down the error message correctly - sqlceme53.dll would refer to the non-existent 5.3 version of SQL Server Compact Edition, the DLL name is sqlceme35.dll (for 3.5).

Hi guys
I have been trying to write a code that gets and sets the size of the virtual memory paging file in Windows CE 6.0 ( for smart devices ).
Is it even possible? if so then how is it done? any API functions? or ...? please help me out
|
|
|
|
|
There isn't one. Windows CE does not page to storage. It is still demand-paged, pages are only fetched from storage or allocated when touched, and pages that haven't been written to can be discarded, plus memory-mapped file pages can be discarded once written back. But private pages that have been written to are not written out to a page file, they stay in main memory.
This is because the traditional primary storage for a Windows CE device is RAM. Writing a copy to a page file simply uses twice as much RAM. It's faster and simpler to keep the data in program memory in the first place.
The division between RAM used for running programs, and RAM used for storage, can be changed at runtime. The API is named SetSystemMemoryDivision. The default division is up to the OEM but is typically 50/50 - half given to programs, half to storage.
Windows Mobile 5.0 and later support Persistent Storage, and I believe it's an option for custom CE platforms. Here, the root file system is actually implemented on Flash, but there's still no support for paging.
