Hi
I am new to mobile applications and working on my first ever sample application.
Development environement .Net 2005
Target Mobile : k-Jam with windows 5.0
My Problems are the following.
1. The application is single form, So when I resize the form in design time and install on my PPC it always cover the complete screen instead of orignal size which is given while designing.
2. There is one textbox on my form, When It get focus I need to show the screen keyboard so user can write any thing using touch screen instead of using qwerty keyboard.
Any idea's

Do you want to have a Form with the "normal" - size, or an form wich is like a popup window?
To show the softkeyboard you have to create an inputpanel on your form.
Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms.InputPanel myInputPanel = new Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms.InputPanel();
then on the gotFocus of the Textbox
myInputPanel.Enabled = true;
that´s it

Hi,
Rizwan Bashir wrote: I am new to mobile applications and working on my first ever sample application.
I have a couple of blog posts which might help with these issues.

This is by design. The Windows Mobile design guidelines suggest all application windows are fullscreen. You will notice this is how all the built in applications behave. I wouldn't suggest breaking this convention.
However if you do want to give it a go, take a look at a blog posting of mine titled "Creating non full screen forms and custom MessageBoxes" http://www.christec.co.nz/blog/archives/134[^]. But the entire technique is rather fragile and not worth the effort in my opinion...
Rizwan Bashir wrote: 2. There is one textbox on my form, When It get focus I need to show the screen keyboard so user can write any thing using touch screen instead of using qwerty keyboard.
For this you should investigate the InputPanel control within the toolbox of the forms designer. A blog post of mine called "Manage soft input panel (SIP)" available at http://www.christec.co.nz/blog/archives/42[^] may be of help. Especially the section titled "Automatic SIP Popup".
Hope this helps,

activeProject.open(xmlPath);
if (activeProject.xmlDoc == null)
{
MessageBox.Show("Error");
}
Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor;
VMain.SuspendLayout();
activeProject.Load();
activeProject.LoadAll();
vTreeView1.InitView(activeProject);
Cursor.Current = Cursors.Default;

Sounds like you need to pick up a good book and read about this. But the short version of the answer to your question is that you can create most common / every day type .NET Applications on a mobile device as well (even database driven).

As you can read at this link on MSDN, eVB is considered obsolete technology now:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/windowsmobile/downloads/evb.aspx[^]
I recommend that use a standard Mobile .NET Application instead, but if you are still set on using eVB, you can download and use it for free at the link above.

The list of compatible development tools:
For early versions of Windows CE, there were plugins to MSVC 5.0 and 6.0. However, these reportedly screwed up your environment so you couldn't use it for desktop development any more.
In 2000 Microsoft released eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0, which includes eVC 3.0, which is basically a rebadged VC 6.0 environment that can live side-by-side. This is compatible with Windows CE 2.x and 3.0, including Pocket PC 2000 and 2002.
Windows CE (.NET) 4.x changed some debugging interfaces and so a new version of eVC was required, version 4.0. eVB was dropped. CE 4.1 requires at least SP1, CE 4.2 at least SP2. SP2 was not compatible with CE 4.1, a problem corrected in SP3. SP4 adds support for CE 5.0. In terms of Windows Mobile versions, WM 2003 for Pocket PC and Smartphone are supported but Windows Mobile 5.0 is not.
Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6 require Visual Studio 2005, at least Standard Edition. The free Express Edition is not enough. VS 2005 also supports Windows CE 5.0 platforms and Pocket PC 2003. I believe the support matrix is the same for Visual Studio 2008.
eVC 3.0 and 4.0 do not work on Windows Vista. No fix is planned. If you're running Windows Vista you'll have to run a Windows XP virtual machine if you need eVC.
See this page[^] for more, including the recommended installation order.

Hello Pramod,
I would suggest you to check for the following two:
1. Set the Passive mode to On.
2. The username to login to the server has the proper rights.

Hey all,
I am really a fan of notepad, i don't know why, but since I don't have a great editor in my pocket pc, I decided to do one of my own(in C#). But the problem comes when i need to save the format of the text in the textbox it does not save the format at all..., is there a richtext component for the pocket pc in the market?
I was thinking on saving an xml file in a database with all the format for each file but then i will be turning this little notepad application into a huge application because i don't know how many files i will have.... is there any way to save the format and style of the text i have in the textbox???
And how could i open word and pdf documents in the ppc?
Basically i want to be able to use my application to read all sort of documents including .MHT
Thanks all,
Best regards!
