I've just starting in VB.NET and would like to know if someone could help me out with a minor issue I have.
When I use INPUTBOX(), the textbox is shown on the screen but the text message isn't.
Anyone would know why ?
Again, must be something very easy.. just new to this .NET world

This question would be better asked in the Mobile Development forum.
Without seeing your code that displays this box, it's impossible to say what the problem is.

Hello:
I am sending a text stream across a TCPIP nextwork and it works fine. Accept .... when I send the word "[Capture]" across the network. I changed the case of the C at the begining and it works fine. Also change to "{" brackets and works fine. I could just change the brackets or the C to a lower case c but I just am trying to figure out why it fails. The error message is IndexOutOfRangeException.
Thank you in advance

There's nothing special about the word "[Capture]" that would cause this. It's probably because of a buffer problem, but with out seeing your failing code and the line that the error occurs on, it's impossible to say.

Hi i was wondering if anybody could help me figure out how to translate a sentence from english wording to british, i have already figured out how to translate single words but i am having a hard time finding how to translate sentences. If anybody has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
Below i have included my current soure code and the text from my text file.
Source:
Public Class Form1
Structure reader
Dim eng As String
Dim brit As String
End Structure
Dim words(11) As reader
Private Sub wurd_load() Handles MyBase.Load
Dim sr As IO.StreamReader = IO.File.OpenText("words.txt")
For i As Integer = 0 To 11
words(i).eng = sr.ReadLine
words(i).brit = sr.ReadLine
Next
sr.Close()
End Sub
Private Sub btn1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btn1.Click
Dim searchword As String, result As Integer
searchword = txt1.Text.ToLower
result = findword(searchword)
If result >= 0 Then
ShowData(result)
Else
MsgBox(searchword & " not in file", 0, "Not Found")
End If
End Sub
Function findword(ByVal searchword As String) As Integer
Dim first, middle, last As Integer
first = 0
last = 11
Do While (first <= last)
middle = CInt(Int((first + last) / 2))
Select Case words(middle).eng.ToLower
Case searchword
Return middle
Case Is > searchword
last = middle - 1
Case Is < searchword
first = middle + 1
End Select
Loop
Return -1
End Function
Sub ShowData(ByVal result As Integer)
'Display the data for the specified state
txt2.Text = words(result).brit
End Sub
End Class

Is this a joke ? English to British ? What do you mean ?
Translating sentences is very complex, because rules of grammar change, that is, when you actually have two different languages to translate between.

Basically i want to know to to "Translate" multiple words instead of one from the textbox, like two words or three instead of one.

Oh - you can use the string.Split method to break a sentence into words, then translate each one.

Why do you keep posting the same question over and over?? The answer has not changed since you asked this very same question on April 1st and May 2nd, and will not change today. The .NET Framework SMTP Client classes do not currently support using a proxy. You will have to find a 3rd party library that does offer proxy support. I currently do not know of any, but I'm sure they exist. All it would take would be 5 seconds worth of Googling to find some.

I am writing a program that runs active sync and syncs a file on a device when it is put into the dock. I want to write a program or windows service that runs when active sync syncs up with the device. Is this possible?

It's possible only with windows service or working background programm which detect this device and then run main program.

Hello, i have a little problem with zedgraph (used in vb.net):
On a form lies one zedgraph which shows one chart (curve).
I want to resize the form, but not the chart/curve. In the form's resize event i set the size of the control.
With ZedGraphControl1
.Top = PanelPatientInfo.Top + PanelPatientInfo.Height
.Left = 0
.Height = Me.ClientSize.Height - .Top
.Width = Me.ClientSize.Width - .Left
End With
But when i do this the complete chart is scaled. (It is like zooming in/out...)
I want the maximum of the x and y axis to get greater/smaller.
How can i do that?
Thanks in advance!

Uhhh, maybe I just don't get the requirement, but if you don't want the chart to resize, why did you supply all this code to resize the chart??

Hmmm, ok...
Let me try to explain it.
When i resize the form (on which the zedgraph lies) then the zedgraph should fill the form. This is working fine.
What i want is: The bigger the form and the zedgraph control gets, the bigger the max value of the y/x axis should become.
Example:
My form is 200x200 pixel and the zedgraph too. The maximum value on the y axis is 200.
Now i resize the form manually to 300x300. So i want the max value on my y axis to increase from 200 to 300 too.
At the moment only the chart (which is contained in the control) gets resized.
How can i change the max value of my axis?
Many thanks in advance!

That's a question for a forum that specifically deals with ZedGraph. I have no idea how to use that library since I've never seen it. But, it sounds like all you have to do is take the width of the form and plug that into the Y-Axis of your graph. How you do that is a question for the people who wrote ZedGraph.

We have an application that we have installed on 3 PC's. I seems to work fine for the most part. We are having
a problem with one PC. There are 2 different people that login on this PC and use the application. If we install it under one login and the other login gets on they always get this message. "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable ?" It is trying to go back to the network location
from where the setup.exe and .msi file are. Any ideas why ? Thanks in advance for any help.
Thanks

Is it possible that PC is trying to use the same instance of an application from both logons? That would lead to permission errors because one account would have access to the installation path, while the other user would not have access to that path.

I guess I don't understand why it goes back to the network and tries to reinstall when the program is already installed.

Well, you installed the program on one user account (was it an administrator?). If their is a single resource that is in conflict with another user logging in, the .NET framework (or the setup program you use) might try to correct this issue by reinstalling. It may try to correct the issue when their really is no reason to correct it. Many of Microsoft's programs do the same thing, when Office crashes or becomes corrupt, it will launch the installation program again to try to fix the issue.

Yes the user that installed it was an administrator. I have tried reinstalling but the problem keeps coming up.
Any ideas on how to stop it from trying to reinstall ?

Hello
I would like to know if there is a programmatic way to send an email message to someone from VBA in Word 2003? After searching a bunch of online references, I know there is an OUTLOOK object reference available that can be added to an existing project and that you can create an instance of the Outlook application but I do not know where to go from here. Every Outlook programming book I've peeked thru only addresses things you can do in Outlook itself, not things involving other office applications.
If I can invoke this Outlook task from Word, I will be much further ahead with my project. Everything else I have in my program works fine. Any help welcome.
Thanks!
