I'd love to see this.
The latest DirectShow seems to have an "MSVidCtl" control, but (from my understanding) it seems to expose TV tuner, DVD and file playback functionality only.
I simply want a scriptable control that displays a video being fed from my card's Composite or SVideo input. At this point I have my doubts MSVidCtl can even expose these inputs.
I'd convert AMCAP.EXE myself into some scriptable component (or just the relevant parts, as I don't care about video-capturing--I just want to *show* a live feed, and embed this into a local HTML file). Unfortunately my ATL/COM knowledge is severely limited at this point...

A good article would be how to intercept the LVN_GETDISPINFO notification message
to create a virtual listview in C#. Especially if someone can get this to work with
the listview class methods, properties, and events.

Because i should develop a FTP software.
I did not want to use interrelated MFC class.
So i will use FTP SDK APIs,like these functions FtpFindFirstFile() etc.
But i have little experience about it.
I am only a programmer!
But i do my best to be a excellent programmer at all times!

Use WindowStation and Desktop objects, they provide virtual window stations and desktops process spaces that WILL NOT be seen from the (interactive) Task Manager.
For more info, lookup "winsta0" in MSDN.

Our company is providing a large solution for Vessel Trafic Monitoring. The part of this project is Vessel Traffic System Database (VTSDB). Most of harbours already have their own databases, so we should be ready for the integration. The first part is creating wrappers to map their tables to VTSDB, but we also want to provide access to the external DB via VTSDB interface. For now i'm looking for the ideas of designing such solution. Do you know where can I find articles describing similar problems.

Have you looked at ADO.NET? OLE DB? ODBC? All of them can be considered unified DB access.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could write the most definitive Windows programming book ever written? It would be one GIANT ebook or pdf file available for a free download, and would cover everything from Win32 programming to .NET. Everyone who wanted to could write a chapter or two on the topic they are the most familiar.

Hi,
I've heard a lot of those features in Windows XP called side-by-side execution of 'assemblies' and thought it was only available for .NET programs.
But then I consider a description on MSDN showing that even unmanaged DLL's (normal libs and COM libs) could be reside version independent on Windows XP using a XML manifest description.
Now I'm looking for deeper instructions how to use that functionality, but I couldn't find any samples or tutorials on MSDN (only the Platform SDK docs).
Hope anyone can help me by stating a good book, link to a tutorial or even some sample code.

I'm developing a few projects in C++ without using MFC (the interface part of the project is not that big). I've been trying to find articles on how to create IE-style menu bars, but the only on I could find was the one on MSDN. However, the article does not explain how one is to subclass the toolbar buttons to make them look like top-level menus (the difference between menus and toolbar buttons is quite evident on Windows XP). It would be much appreciated if somebody could illustrate how this can be done.

You basically create a toolbar with the "list" style, then assign text (but no image) to the buttons. The MSDN article gives a good explanation about how to do the keyboard handling.

I'm currently working on a server application and i've reached an apparently "easy to solve" problem: the management of users' rights. On a first evaluation they only had boolean rights but after a while i have to deal with levels, priorities, groups and so on. The level of abstraction has become so high that i wonder if already exists a standard or a model i could follow (XML would be great).
Do you know if there is an article on CP relative to this subject?
Or some other web resources?

Why not using the Windows built-in features? They are not really easy but there are some nice-to-use libraries around.

I want to have a series of small icons in an image list that i can display in any colour. ImageList has BLEND25 and BLEND50 but no easy way as far as i can tell to use the mask as the shape but draw it in any colour that i choose.
By the way i'm working in unmanaged C++ and MFC.
Ideas/answers anyone?
