absulotely 100%
I don't know if you was following my posts in this thread when I said "being smartass and a**hole" is helpful sometimes, that was not a joke. This is how I became.
Now, to show the you the difference/confusion and (why I accused d@nish response is insult.
If someone post a question "how to set a value to textbox", I swear I will make fun of him with all my power until he stop asking those kind of question.
but let me reverse the question,
- Rabih ask how to change multiple days backcoloring
- d@nish asnswer, Did you try it your self?
As if this multiple backcoloring system ability is obvious/noticable property and every one should know it (WHICH IS NOT), in case that was true, I am 100% with d@nish response (whatever it was) because we did not see it. (but that was not the case)
now my reverse Question
Did d@nish try it? Did he put that 2 controls on a form and try to achieve that (in simple way) before he ask his question? because if he do, he will know that this property is not there. since he did not test, (in my opinion) he should not response with such an answer)
So (my first impression) he is making fun and he has no right since he did not test it him self.
When you answer "Did you try it" or "Check the help file" the answer supposed to be obvious AND the person who answer SHOULD know that the answer exist in "TESTING" or "READING" the help file.
If d@nish answer was "What have you tried?" yes, it will make a difference, because this answer will show that either this question has no specific question in it, and d@nish did not understand in specific the problem and he willing to help when he knows. but pointing Rabih to try it by him self and the solution is not there??I guess that is wrong. What you call that?

Why should I? This ain't my job.
Samir Ibrahim wrote: because if he do, he will know that this property is not there
I knew that. He knew needed a customized control or needs to paint things himself. But, I do not believe in spoon feeding. If you are working in any programming language, you are bound to face challenges. And instead of trying something (no matter how incorrect it is) if you just seek for a ready made solution, you are wrong (IMHO) (And that too without taking pains to search the solution).
Samir Ibrahim wrote: When you answer "Did you try it" or "Check the help file" the answer supposed to be obvious AND the person who answer SHOULD know that the answer exist in "TESTING" or "READING" the help file.
No. These are two very different replies. One just means did even gave a shot? Second means the thing is quite obvious and can be found quite easily.
Samir Ibrahim wrote: but pointing Rabih to try it by him self and the solution is not there??
It is. And the language I had used was IMO related to the way OP had asked. It was something like:
Q. Will X do Y when I put Z in it?
A. Why not try yourself?

YESS, THAT IS YOUR JOB.
When someone ask a question (in any forum) he is expecting to see an answer from expert, the expert answer should be correct. and your answer to him (althought i am now convinced it has no insult in it) is WRONG.

I would say you are TOTALLY wrong again.
I will not re-create the wheel since someone (thankfully) has invent it before me, so I will use the wheel and adust it to my needs.
if i am searching for something and someone did it, should I NOT use it? I don't think so.
Do you have projects or working in a company? Do you want to convince me that you did not install & use already made controls or activex created by others? if your answer is yes, God be with you.

Most of the programmers use controls/products/libraries made by others. Hence, the answer has to be yes.

If you are (untill now) still finding your answer is (helpfull, and you correctly read the question, and correctly give an answer) then be sure we have a big problem of understanding each other and we will never meet in a middle point of understanding.
Let us keep away from each other, and ended here.
If I had learned something from being a member in this forum in the past, it is,
- I will NEVER post a question in here (although, I am sure that this forum can put msdn forum in there small pocket)
- but, I may post an answer.
Like now, I had a question in my mind and I don't know if it aplicable, (untill writing this sentence I didnot make any kind of research on it) and I have no clue about it.
If I still in my current situation (did not make research) I am afraid of asking it in here. because I can imagine the response I will get, but i am not afraid of asking this question is Daniweb or msdn or vbcity.
Such a decesion in not only because of your kind of response, but because you are getting courage from your collegue to doing it.
The problem is not in you personally. The problem is in the psycological thinking of people in here.
I wish you the best in your career.

Just to make sure i put this in the right perspective.
people like danich think they are answering school students & i will not take that behavior from him.
i am a professional just like him (supposedly).
if he asked what have you tried i will tell him:
1) i read local msdn help
2) i browsed Google from its result pages 1 to page 7
3) i asked couple of my friends, people at work if they have any idea.
4) i asked this on msdn
5) then in the end i asked here on codeproject
anyway i got my answer on MSDN, SADLY the answers were here on codeproject but my search in google did not reveal them.
Best Regards.

You are drawing conclusions way too early. I don't have anything against you or anyone. If you feel my reply was because I thought you are a student, you are plain wrong. Sorry but that is truth.

Had you told this in the first post and then even mentioned:
1. what you found
2. how you customized what you found as per your needs
3. And, where is that failing
4. All this, keeping in mind you don't post a gigantic post.
Wouldn't this have made your post a better one?

Since development work started getting outsource to the Middle East countries, especially India, there has been a huge rise in those very people asking all kinds of questions that a beginning student or very inexperienced programmer would ask. The typical level of detail when someone from that region asks a question is extremely low. There is usually no explanation of anything that was tried, nor any code snippets and a complete lack of knowledge on how to do research, like using Google or Yahoo. Your origianl post came very close to those specifications, and if there is anything we hate is someone who will not help themselves. I'd say most of the time the questions ARE coming from students, or newbies trying to make "easy" money, who have no idea what they're doing.

ME providing a link in the original thread implies that i was searching for something but could not find it, if you want to go there, most of the VB results were related to ASP & it was custom table with cells that the users created themselves.

I don't think that each user should put his whole day experience so that it shows that he is serious or NO.

just Note down that India has more HONOR KIDS then United states has KIDS.
That does not mean that people in the far east are retarded & don't know how to do research, stupidity has no origin, i will show you dozens from people here in the states who ask stupid questions in forums.

That's not what I said. You have to show what you've tried, looked, whatever, so 1) we know your actually helping yourself instead of wanting someone else to do your research for you and 2) so we don't throw you back at the same resources you already tried.

Like I give a rats ass. Most of people posting questions around here don't have a clue how to do research. Call them whatever you want, but without the ability to do research and teach yourself what you need to know when you need to know it, you don't have any hope of surviving in IT, let alone software development.
rabih.tawil wrote: That does not mean that people in the far east are retarded & don't know how to do research,
That's not what I said. I said around here, meaing Code Project, that there was a huge rise, in the last few years, in people who don't have a clue how to do research, and most of those people come from the "East". I know there are a ton of people around The States that can't do it either, they're just not coming to the Code Project.

Incorrect. Just spend sometime and read other threads. I am sure you will find a few threads similar to this one and some great threads. I am sure you will be able to point out the differences.
Samir Ibrahim wrote: this site is well knows as insulting people.
Incorrect. Most of the people here are professionals. Leave me, but if someone tells something, there has got to be a reason for it.
Samir Ibrahim wrote: I guess that d@nish enjoying making fun of new comming people as most of member here (not you).
Incorrect again. I just asked him to try out himself what he asked. He had some idea and he should have atleast tried to implement that. If he had achieved it himself, it would have given satisfaction. In case, he had got stuck somewhere, there are plenty of people out here to help.
I hope I made myself clear.

I am dieing from curiosity to know the reason.
Maybe You can explain it your self, since you was the first one who answered "Try it your self" as other answer until now are not satisfying (to me) maybe you can explain it better.

I agree on the principle your are talking about.
I am asking this question to you (3rd time I ask the question).
In the picture Rabih post for the Control(datePicker or Month) he shows in specific what he want to change the backcolor of some days to be in different color and bind this coloring to a database.
here is his question "quote"
<blockquote class="FQ"><div class="FQA">rabih.tawil wrote:</div>I wanted to ask if the "Month calendar" control that is present in the toolbox in visual studio 2008, can do the same behavior</blockquote>
Can It?
<blockquote class="FQ"><div class="FQA">rabih.tawil wrote:</div>I wanted to ask if the "Month calendar" control that is present in the toolbox in visual studio 2008, can do the same behavior</blockquote>
many day backcolor . Can it?
<blockquote class="FQ"><div class="FQA">rabih.tawil wrote:</div>if possible please provide some code sample or useful link.</blockquote>
He did not ask for complete code if that is the matter as some other member tried to show.
Now the golden question to you.
You told him to try it. Try what ?
FWIW, The link posted by EliottA showing the msdn help tells (also) nothing about changing "many backcolor for days" which leads in my opinion that either you "making fun of him" or "did not understand the question" and to be honest, the second did not came to my mind until now.

Try what he told. Make a form. Put the control in it and check its properties. See if it offers anything like SelectedDateBackColor. If it does, great. If it doesn't, how can I do this? May be Paint it myself or create my own control by extending the original. Then, try creating a custom control. If you get stuck somewhere, then post the query.

The calendar controls have nothing to do with databases. All they do is supply a Date or DateTime object. You use the values you get out of the object supplied and incorporate that into your SQL via (preferrably) a Parameter object to your query.
My bad - I misread the question...

Hi, I have a customer that has a VB6 COM application that are calling my WCF service in .NET C#.
I (we) are using windows integrated security and using nettcp binding. How should/can my customer set password and username at his xml, so that my service understand. Is this possible in VB6? The VB6 application is using an object that´s called XMLHttpObject. He has used it to talk to other web services (not in WCF)...one thing that differ now is that we are using integrated security.
I saw on msdn something about a service moniker http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733928.aspx[^], but then my customer has to make/create his own .net application locally on his machine. Is this the only way?
thanks in advance for all feedback!

I would be telling your customer that VB6 is no longer supported, it has not been for some years. VB6 is a dead language and he should not be using it as a current development platform. I suggest you go with the MSDN solution requiring dotnet.

How to find the coordinates of text marked in blue after the ocr process. And if i want to copy/save the same marked area as image in some other control like picture box then how can we do that.
If i am trying to copy the area marked in blue and exporting it thru MODI.IMiSelectableImage object but its giving error "Object or With block variable not set"
When Selecting the image one red rectagle comes then only it copies the same. So how we can make visible the selection through code.
Because i have tried after selecting it manually its working fine but i want to use the same through code.
Please Help....

One cannot mark text in an image. You can draw a selection on the picturebox. You'd read the MouseEventArgs to get to position, after which you copy that part[^] of the picture. Then, OCR that part of the picture, and you'll have your "selected text".

Is MODI equal to null? Has the COM-object been registered correctly?

I'm using Vb.Net 2003
I'm having a problem that the listbox SelectedIndexChanged event fires when a selected item is clicked. It seems logical to me that clicking on an item that is already selected wound not fire the event since the index does not change - but so much for logic.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

miwtech wrote: Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
I don't think so.
Several WinForms Controls have a XxxChanged event that fires somewhat more frequently than one could hope for.
Most often executing an event handler should not cause side effects, so all that is wrong with it is it wastes some CPU cycles, and possibly causes additional screen flicker by Controls being repainted (assuming some properties get changed inside the XxxChanged handler and doublebuffering isn't used). In rare occasions, side effects might occur; to avoid these one should remember and compare the current and the previous state, and only act on a real change.
