WinXP+RAS Rainer Mangold17-Dec-02 1:09 Rainer Mangold 17-Dec-02 1:09  My notebook is a member of our NT4 domain in the coorp. network. While working in the office everything is fine, using fileservers, exchange and so on. However, when I am trying to connect to the corp.network via RAS, or even VPN during the last days, I have problems to connect to those servers. When working offline I still use my domain-account, and with the cached profile I -hope- I should be able to access all servers, as described above, using the Username and password of the cached profile. (This worked perfectly for me in NT40 and W2K). However using the same procedure in XP I always have to enter uname + pwd to connect to a file-server or exchange-server. It is annoying, always to reenter those informations. Is there a chance to make it work as it was using NT4 and W2K? Change Reg-Settings or so? Thanks in advance Rainer Help! But it doesn't run under Windows 2000. I used DDEshare.exe to create all the shares and gave them a trusted status. DDESpy results: the first Task is a Callback. Differences: Type = Unregister (Win 2000) Type = Register (Win NT) How can I make the type go Register? Server on NT is programmed in Borland c++; I would be glad not to touch this sources. Client on W2K will be programmed in VB, but see the Problems. I know that NetDDE is out, but I don't want to change all the code. Any idea? Thanks in advance. And we also have a client that connects to this TCP port for the service to perform some data processing and return the result. So far, this service has worked perfectly. Except that when the service is with load balancing (Load balancing that comes with Win2K Adv Svr). When there is more than one service running in the load balance, the client generates a "Cannot connect to the server" error message. This does not happen when only one service is running (even in with load balancing). Any idea of where to look to figure out what the problem might be? Everything works fine, except for poor speed on two hosts (a cable problem, along with some minor config issues), so there's nothing really wrong. But while looking into it I noticed that from any data entry station it is possible to view all 6 such hosts, but the Master is not visible. From the Master, all 7 hosts are visible. In every system I've seen or used if all hosts are configured properly, they all appear in My Network Places. Somehow, whoever it was that set this up managed to hide the Master from the rest, a slick trick in this case. I know it's not a foolproof security measure, but given the lack of computer skills of the data entry operators it is probably quite adequate. Monkey no-see, monkey no-do. How is this stunt accomplished? I can see a lot of practical uses for it in small office environments. In a Peer-to-Peer network, there is no domain. But all 7 hosts are in the same Workgroup, including the one running the Master programs. All 6 data entry stations can "see" each other, but not the Master. Only the Master can display all 7 hosts, including itself, in My Network Places. It is not an OS protected file, but when attempting to delete it the OS advises that it is already open. This even happens after a reboot. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we can do to get rid of this damn file. If this file located on NOT-system drive just start chkdsk from console with "Force dismount" option (/X). After check try to kill it. It may be that this is a service file that is being used. In which case you can stop the service then delete the file . Search the Registry for the autosearch.msn.com URL and locate the keys where it appears (if any). After saving a backup copy of your registry, try changing the value of the keys found to www.mysite.com, then rebooting. IE is very consistent about following the Windows model, storing everything in the Registry instead of config files, so I'd expect this to work nicely. Josus3-Feb-03 2:46 Josus 3-Feb-03 2:46  hi thats no problem. suse is a "easy" ditribution. suse gets notice pf you win partitions and even make mountpoints for it. at home I have 2 hdd. one for win2k and one for suselinux 8.1 simply start with windows and then install suse.. but: if you want to have a "free data way" between win and suse make a win partition as FAT and not as NTFS... linux can read ntfs but not write.. but fat is no problem... read/write ok... hope you are still alive (my english..) ) life is fun!
