Does anyone know to permanently set the toolbar down in the systray? Every time I boot up the computer re-checks the Language Bar and I have to un-check it, such a pain. Any ideas?

Hi,
I've a Win2k machine on a LAN. My machine is showing Scheduled Task in the shared area of my computer when accessed from some other computer on the network. How do I remove this Schedueled Task folder from the share area of my computer.

I was so tempted to try this earlier on my XP Pro box, but I was working and had too much stuff open (too lazy to shut it all down). Now, I'm at home, so I figured why not give it a shot.
It didn't crash XP Pro, much to my disdain.  It just prints "HuHung up" and keeps flashing. The link you posted earlier about the Ctrl+Scroll Lock or whatever was pretty cool though.

Anybody know if it's possible to tell WinVerifyTrust() which certificate chain/store to use?

I am running IE version 6.0.2600.0000, and I keep getting the "Do you want to debug?" error box when I encounter a script error. I've gone into Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and checked to "Disable Script Debugging" check box many times now, it always works for a short while and then the problem reappears. What is going on? Obviously something is resetting the registry key, does anyone hear have any insight into this maddening problem?

I've recently tried Trans2k, and sBernhard Hammer's Transparency program here on codeproject. I don't know what the deal is but whenever I try to make a window transparent, the window will not stay still. It constantly "blinks", as if refreshing itself. Rendering it basically useless. I never had this problem when I used transparency with 2k months ago. Anyone know what the problem might be and/or how this can be fixed?

I use Ultradev 4 and found the built in tutorial (for beginning) and on-line help (more advanced) very useful for all tools like DB etc... Unfortunately no help with ColdFusion or ASP coding though, only it's functions (creating recordsets etc)

Friday Fun.
Ok I just lost a bet with a co-worker, but I think there is something very fishy going on.
Our WXP Pro disk was "lost" sometime back so a co-worker brought in his copy and I installed that on a new laptop.
Thing was during the install it never asked me to join a domain or any network settings actually. It even has the "SEt up a home or small office network" option which my WXP Pro does not have, sounds more like Home t me. Also once installed and booted up it presented what I thought was the Windows XP Home login screen. The one where you can swap between different users with the cute little pictures and what not. Not the usual Windows XP Pro single login screen.
So I bet that this was actually a Windows XP Home disc and not Professional. I then went into the System applet in Control Panel, with a big smug grin on my face, only to see it say "Windows XP Professional" and with the same build and version number as what is on my WXP Pro desktop.
So this is all a bit confusing. Is there a version of Windows XP Pro out there that has the Home login screen and is not able to join domains and what not?
Or is there a way to make Windows XP Pro masquerade as Windows XP Pro? Please say the latter, then the bastard won't get his coke and he owes me one

If your machine is not a member of a domain, you get the same login screen and fast user switching options. If you want to join a domain, use the Network ID wizard on the Computer Name tab of the system properties.

Odd because my Windows XP Pro machine does not do that. If I take it off the domain it comes up with the normal Windows XP Pro login screen.
When I installed it (from a guaranteed WXP Pro disc) there was a very big portion of the setup dedicated to connecting to the network and domain. But with this dodgy disc, none of that (and the network card is all there and fine.)
Plus nowhere in any of the Network applets is there a Network wizard or anything to do with joining a domain. Everything is geered towards a normal Group network, not a Domain one.

When you take it out of the domain, there should be an option under Control Panel -> User Accounts to "change the way you log in" (or words to that effect).

Do you have an entry for "Local Area Connection" under Network Connections? Maybe Windows thinks it doesn't have a connection, so it can't join a domain.

After discovering that the \scripts folder has magically disappeared from IIS, and noting that nothing works anymore, I backed up the web configuration and data files, then followed the MS instructions for removing and reinstalling IIS. Big mistake!
Using the same Win2K Server CD I installed from a year ago on this then-new machine, many of the critical files (including iis.msc) were not found, and all of the smpt and nntp files are missing from the CD. It is undamaged, not a scratch on it, and it installed perfectly without a hitch the first time.
After reinstalling, skipping the missing files, I recreated the iis.msc file from mmc.exe and saved it. The entire structure is there, including the formerly absent \scripts folder, but now the asp pages I was developing no longer work. All the FrontPage Extensions were also missing from the CD, so I downloaded the newer FrontPage2002 files and installed them. It now tells me that I lack permissions to use the extensions, even though I'm logged on as the Admin for the system.
I'm guessing that I'm going to have to reinstall Win2K completely, along with the IIS component, to restore normal operation, but I have so much installed on top of it that I doubt I can recover all of it. In the past, previous versions of Windows have been very good about preserving installed drivers, data files, and most programs. Has anyone reinstalled Windows2K Server? How did it go, and what kinds of things did you lose?

I've never done a reinstall of a server over an existing installation. They simply never seem to work for me. It's a clean install or nothing for me.

I've been wanting to try a RAID5 array for a while, so maybe I'll go grab three extra drives and install them - give Win2K RAID management a workout and see what happens. At least then I should have plenty of space to back things up!

Anyone get this working? My machine works perfectly as a server on it's own but as soon as NLB is turned on it ceases to be able to see the outside world. Everything's been double checked, all settings are the same as other machines in the cluster, yet the 2003 box just doesn't want to get along.
Anyone else seen this?

I'm not sure if they is the right place to ask this but I couldn't find a better catagory.
I have a custom driver that I can install with the Hardware wizard no problem. I want to be able to install the driver from an installer though. If you right click on a *.inf file you will see Install in the submenu. In the installer I can call external functions so I call rundll32.exe with InstallHinfSection ... it is the same as the right click Install. The problem is this does not seem to add the driver to the device manager (though it does copy my files to the system32\driver folder).
I have spend a day reading MSDN and I'm no closer to figuring this out. Can anyone help me? Or point me to a site that has forums related to windows drivers?

I am trying to write a device install program to get around the problem of xp sp1 installing a driver that i do not wish to use. The ftdi usb-serial device has an approved driver in sp1 that is installed when the device is plugged in.
In order to install the device you must cancel the driver request from windows, go to device manager, and manually update the driver xp installed.
I have played with SetupCopyOEMInf(), UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices() and calling "rundll32 SETUPAPI.DLL,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\temp\drivers\ftd2xx.inf" with no real success.
Is there any way to automate the manual install process?

I am having a network speed problem on my server and I would like to a point to point benchmark test with another pc to help determine the case of the problem. Do youknow of any free software that will do this and works on nt 4 and XP?
